Mishima Skywalk

Mishima Skywalk is a 400-meter-long pedestrian suspension bridge located in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is known as the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Japan. The view from the bridge is breathtaking, offering sights of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay.

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji, at an elevation of 3,776 meters, is famous as the highest mountain in Japan. It sits on the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2013. Although Mount Fuji lies between Shizuoka and Yamanashi, its boundary had long remained undecided, and at one point the two sides were at odds over it. Currently, however, the governors of both prefectures have indicated that they do not intend to make the boundary issue a subject of discussion.

Eel Pie

Unagi Pie is a souvenir originating from Hamamatsu City in Shizuoka Prefecture; it’s a pie pastry made with eel extract. It’s also known as the “night snack” and has been loved for many years. Many people may be familiar with Unagi Pie, but it’s surprising to learn that it really does contain eel extract.

Hamamatsu City

There are two government-designated cities in Shizuoka Prefecture: Shizuoka City and Hamamatsu City. Shizuoka City is also known as the prefectural capital. Hamamatsu City is famous for eel and musical instruments, and it is the most populous city in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Kunōzan Tōshōgū

The correct answer is Kunōzan Tōshōgū. It was founded in accordance with the will of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who spent his later years in Sunpu, to enshrine him as the deity. In 2010, its main sanctuary (honden), the connecting stone chamber (ishinoma), and the worship hall (haiden) were designated as Japan’s first—and only—National Treasure buildings in Shizuoka Prefecture. The lavish Gongen-style shrine buildings, adorned with vividly colored carvings and decorations, are an extremely valuable example of early Edo-period architecture.

Shizuoka Prefecture has the highest wasabi production in Japan. Wasabi originally grows wild in clean mountain valleys and streams. Wasabi from Shizuoka, nurtured by pristine water, is famous for its rich aroma and flavor. After Shizuoka, Nagano and Iwate Prefectures follow in terms of production volume.

Tomei Expressway

The Tomei Expressway is a highway that connects Tokyo IC in Setagaya, Tokyo, with Komaki IC in Komaki, Aichi. It runs east–west through Kanagawa and Shizuoka Prefectures and serves as a major transportation artery. There are also several well-known service areas along the route.
