[For Seniors] Crafts You Can Make with Pudding Cups! (1–10)
snow globe
Snow globes are a common sight at Christmas.
How about making one with a pudding cup? When you use an empty jar, you usually fill it with liquid, but pudding cups don’t have lids, so skip the liquid.
Instead, cut up shiny origami paper and put it inside, or add sequins and beads.
For the lid, use colored paper, cut it into any shape you like, and secure it with glue or cellophane tape.
By changing the color and shape of the paper lid and what you put inside, you can create snow globes that are perfect for spring or summer, too.
kusudama (decorative paper ball used for celebrations)
Let’s make a party popper (kusudama) using empty containers of the same size, like pudding cups! Make holes in two pudding cups and thread a string through so you can hang them.
Put torn origami paper or similar inside, fit the two cups together firmly, and secure them by trapping the pull string with masking tape—that’s it! While making it, be sure to test beforehand that the popper opens properly when you pull the string.
Try bringing it out for birthdays or any celebratory event.
Kendama
Let’s make a kendama using pudding cups! You’ll need two pudding cups, a plastic bottle cap, and cotton twine.
Attach one end of the twine to the outside of the bottom of one pudding cup, then secure the plastic bottle cap firmly with cellophane tape several dozen centimeters down the line.
Next, tape the two pudding cups together bottom-to-bottom with vinyl tape, and you’re done.
Can you manage to catch the bottle cap in the pudding cup? It might be tricky to tape everything together, but you can also try making it with other empty containers instead of pudding cups.
jellyfish
How about making a jellyfish ornament that looks cool and refreshing? All you need are an empty pudding cup and cellophane in any colors you like.
It’s very simple to make: cut the cellophane into long, thin strips and stick them to the inside of the pudding cup.
Attach twine or fishing line to the outside of the cup so you can hang it up.
You can keep it simple with transparent cellophane in your favorite color, or use a mix of colorful cellophane.
Hang it by a window and it will look beautiful as the light shines through.
Sweets cup
How about using resin clay or paper clay to create sweet decorations with empty pudding cups? You can even buy resin clay at 100-yen shops, making it perfect for crafting fake sweets.
You could take advantage of the container’s shape to make a pudding à la mode, or pipe on as much whipped cream as you like.
It’s also fun to make lots of fruit and decorate with them.
Fake sweets do take time to dry thoroughly, but even just displaying them is a mood-lifting delight.
bead maracas
Here’s an idea for making simple musical maracas using pudding cups.
Put beads or other items that make sound when shaken inside the cups.
The sound changes depending on the size of the beads, so try using various types.
You can also use nuts or other plastic parts.
Just join two pudding cups of the same size together and you’re done—it’s easy to make.
Decorate the outside of the cups with stickers and more to create your own cute, original maracas!
headphones
Do they look real when you wear them? Here’s how to make headphones using empty pudding cups.
Wrap the pudding cups in aluminum foil and cap them with round pieces of thick paper cut to the size of the cups.
Since these will touch your ears, you can draw mesh or other patterns on them.
Wrap colored vinyl tape of your choice over the aluminum foil, then attach a headband—made by wrapping thick paper in aluminum foil—to the pudding cups to finish.
After attaching the headband, stick more thick paper over it and draw any pictures or patterns you like.
