Full-body undressing exercise

It’s a full-body exercise that simulates wearing many layers of clothing during the cold winter and then taking them off one by one.
It’s also tied to February 6th being Bath Day, so I think you’ll really feel warmth from the routine.
Cross your hands in front of your body, then slowly raise them upward—put some strength into it and stretch your body thoroughly.
Starting from a contracted position and then opening outward, you’ll move your body while also creating a sense of release.
Brain training with heart-shaped cutouts using newspaper

It’s a game where you tear an opened-up newspaper by hand to try to make a more accurate heart shape.
Since it’s themed around Valentine’s Day on February 14, the shape also helps create a happy atmosphere.
Newspaper has a direction in which it tears more easily, so spotting that and making small, precise hand movements are the keys to creating a beautiful heart.
If you move your hands in big motions, the heart will turn out rough, so focus on small, detailed movements to really train your hand control.
Kabuki dance

February 20 is Kabuki Day, established to commemorate the date when Okuni of Izumo—often credited as the founder of kabuki dance—gave the first kabuki performance at Edo Castle.
Because kabuki is a traditional art form familiar to many older adults, it can be enjoyed as a recreational activity.
Moving the body broadly provides a full-body workout, but for those with limited mobility, simply sitting in a chair and moving only the upper body still offers good exercise.
It’s a recommended group recreation that livens up any event with its festive atmosphere.

Cat Basics Quiz

A quiz about cats, which have become an unprecedented boom in recent years, could be a great recreation activity for seniors as well.
With more people adopting rescue cats nowadays, it’s increasingly important to gain accurate knowledge.
Creating easy-to-answer questions—like true/false or multiple-choice with two or three options—based on the participants will make it easier for anyone to join in positively.
And of course, if the group consists of cat lovers, you can make it more niche and still have fun.
It’s a perfect game for February, the month that includes Cat Day.
Cat Day Exercise Song

Cat Day, established on various dates around the world, is set in Japan on February 22 by the Cat Day Executive Committee in 1987.
The date is based on a pun on the cat’s meow, “nyaa-nyaa-nyaa,” making it easy for anyone in Japan to remember and agree with.
There’s also a song-and-exercise to match this wordplay, where you hold up your two favorite fingers and extend them left and right in turn while saying “nyaa-nyaa-nyaa.” The moves are simple and can be done while seated, making it recommended for older adults as well.
It’s a cute group activity and a perfect recreation for February.
Setsubun Quiz

Setsubun quizzes are fun because you get to learn lots of things you didn’t know.
There are even questions like, “Which direction should you face when eating an ehomaki?” Thinking about the answers together with older adults might spark lively conversations about the past.
Let’s choose quiz questions—from easy to hard—to suit everyone.
The sense of accomplishment when you get the right answer and the joy of new discoveries are exceptional.
A Setsubun quiz lets you feel the season while enjoyably stimulating the brain.
Shall we spend some time together, smiling all around?
Setsubun decorations

This is a Setsubun hanging decoration with a charming, rounded shape like a traditional handball.
Attach chirimen crepe fabric to the surface of a ball-shaped Styrofoam piece cut in half.
To thread a hanging cord later, make a groove along the cut surface, glue on a straw, and cover it with fabric.
Then decorate the chirimen fabric with yarn and felt cut into leaves, butterflies, and other motifs.
Finally, thread a cord adorned with plum blossoms through the straw, and your Setsubun decoration that evokes the arrival of spring is complete!
