Heart Getter

This is the Heart Getter game, where you slide a toilet paper tube and compete to see which target you can reach! Set up two strings stretched tight, and thread paper hearts with slits cut into them.
Arrange the hearts so the points increase the farther they are: 10 points in front, 30 points in the middle, and 50 points in the back—now you’re ready.
Slide a toilet paper tube with a marble weight attached (threaded on the lower string) toward the heart targets with a good push and play.
Adjust the string height so players can move comfortably.
Demon-slaying with bound bowling

As a recreation activity to go with Setsubun, a representative event in February, we recommend “Defeating the Oni with Bounce Bowling”! This activity is an adaptation of “bounce bowling,” where you place bowling pins on chairs arranged in a row and knock them down by bouncing a ball.
Simply wrap printed oni (demon) images around the pins to give it a Setsubun theme.
Another plus is that it requires very little preparation.
It’s sure to be a hit as either an individual or team competition! Once everyone gets the hang of it, you can level it up by adding a ‘good fortune’ pin among the oni, and so on.
Valentine’s Day coloring pages

Let’s express our individuality with a coloring activity featuring Valentine’s Day–themed illustrations.
It’s important to imagine colors that fit the Valentine’s Day theme and use them while considering overall balance.
While colored pencils are the classic choice, having a wide range of tools available can also bring out unique styles.
Encourage everyone to stay focused on coloring the entire piece and complete their own works.

Full-body undressing exercise

It’s a full-body exercise that simulates wearing many layers of clothing during the cold winter and then taking them off one by one.
It’s also tied to February 6th being Bath Day, so I think you’ll really feel warmth from the routine.
Cross your hands in front of your body, then slowly raise them upward—put some strength into it and stretch your body thoroughly.
Starting from a contracted position and then opening outward, you’ll move your body while also creating a sense of release.
Brain training with heart-shaped cutouts using newspaper

It’s a game where you tear an opened-up newspaper by hand to try to make a more accurate heart shape.
Since it’s themed around Valentine’s Day on February 14, the shape also helps create a happy atmosphere.
Newspaper has a direction in which it tears more easily, so spotting that and making small, precise hand movements are the keys to creating a beautiful heart.
If you move your hands in big motions, the heart will turn out rough, so focus on small, detailed movements to really train your hand control.
Let’s make flowers bloom on a withered tree.

In the bitter cold of February, isn’t it the season when our anticipation for the flower-filled spring grows stronger? Let’s heighten that sense of expectation with a game themed around cherry blossoms, a quintessential symbol of spring.
The setup features a tree motif, with paper plates marked with point values arranged along its branches.
Players toss pom-poms, like little flowers, aiming to land them on the plates.
When a pom-pom lands successfully, pink blooms line the branches, making the once-bare tree look as if it has blossomed.
Focus on controlling your throwing strength to achieve both a beautiful display and a high score.
Kabuki dance

February 20 is Kabuki Day, established to commemorate the date when Okuni of Izumo—often credited as the founder of kabuki dance—gave the first kabuki performance at Edo Castle.
Because kabuki is a traditional art form familiar to many older adults, it can be enjoyed as a recreational activity.
Moving the body broadly provides a full-body workout, but for those with limited mobility, simply sitting in a chair and moving only the upper body still offers good exercise.
It’s a recommended group recreation that livens up any event with its festive atmosphere.
