[Childcare] Fun to Make! February Craft Ideas Collection
February is full of unique delights—like Setsubun, Valentine’s Day, and activities that make the most of the cold, such as ice-making—that children look forward to.
However, when it snows or the temperature drops too low, there will be more days when you can’t go outside.
So this time, we’re sharing craft ideas perfect for February.
We’ve gathered lots of fun projects that will excite children and blow away the winter chill.
Be sure to try making them together with your kids.
Note: Since items made by children are treated as artworks, we refer to them as “creations” in the text.

Oni photo props

Many of you may be thinking about capturing fun Setsubun memories in photos.
In that case, here’s a suggestion: make oni-themed photo props.
Photo props are small accessories used for photography.
This time, we’ll create mask-like props that let you turn into an oni when you hold them in front of your face.
Imagine using a paper plate as the oni’s face and cutting out only the eye areas.
It would be lovely to prepare several so you can take commemorative photos with friends.
Using a long straw as a handle will make them even more convenient.
Sweets card stand

Using items you can easily find at a 100-yen shop, let’s make the perfect piece for a Valentine’s Day event.
Create a card stand inspired by sweet and cute desserts to brighten up your event or party! First, prepare some pipe cleaners in pretty colors.
Wind them around and around to resemble colorful swirl candies or rolled cakes.
Glue the motif onto a clip.
Add fruit-like decorations as well.
Once it’s fully dry, you’re done.
Clip a card in place, and your handmade sweets-themed card stand is ready.
A letter of the heart

Making heart-shaped letters together with children will become a truly wonderful memory.
Use colorful origami paper and fold it into heart shapes.
Write messages inside, add decorations, and let your ideas shine to create something uniquely your own.
The finished heart letters make perfect gifts for someone special.
Give them to teachers, friends, or family with gratitude.
They’re sure to bring a smile to anyone who receives one.
It will be a heartfelt gift that conveys the children’s warmth.
Plum Blossoms and Nightingales
Since long ago, plum blossoms and bush warblers have been considered a classic pairing that heralds the arrival of spring.
Let’s make this charming duo in origami and display them on the wall so that children can feel the change of seasons.
By crumpling the origami to create wrinkles, you can express a soft, gentle look.
Then, while rounding and making indentations, shape the pieces into plum blossoms and branches.
Showing photos or illustrations of plum flowers beforehand makes it easier to visualize and helps children engage.
For the bush warbler, adjust the approach according to age—have children fold it from origami or color it in.
snow rabbit
A cute, round “snow rabbit” that you can finish in any size by crumpling paper.
Crumple a suitably sized sheet of newspaper into a ball, then wrap it with printer paper that you’ve pre-crumpled to add texture, and secure it with glue.
Make the rabbit’s eyes by rolling up small pieces of cut origami paper, and prepare the ears by cutting green origami paper into leaf shapes.
Attach the eyes and ears to the rounded base, and you’re done! The crumpling part is fun even for children who aren’t yet comfortable using tools, so give it a try.
