Karaoke songs that make it easy for women to score high

Karaoke systems with scoring features have been getting more and more sophisticated lately, and an increasing number now evaluate vocal techniques like vibrato and scooping.

However, the largest part of the scoring criteria is still the accuracy of melody and rhythm.

In this feature, we focus on those criteria and have compiled a selection of songs that are easy to sing and likely to score high, especially ones where it’s easy to follow the melody and rhythm.

When karaoke has a scoring function, you can’t help but want to go for a high score, whether you’re confident in your singing or not.

For each song, we’ve also included tips on how to earn a high score, so be sure to use them as a reference and aim for your best.

That said, the most important thing is to forget about the numbers and just sing freely and have fun the way you like!

ATARASHII GAKKO! – Change (Official Music Video)
Changeatarashii gakkou no rīdāzu

With their edgy musicality and performance, the idol group ATARASHII GAKKO! has earned high acclaim not only in Japan but also overseas.

Known for their distinctive blend of hip-hop and kayōkyoku, that signature sound is alive and well in this work too.

In particular, this piece has a narrow vocal range, and there are no high notes in either the rap or the singing parts.

Instead, elements like rap flow are essential, making it recommended for those with a good sense of groove.

Give it a try!

Teru’s SongTeshima Aoi

“Teru’s Song” Aoi Teshima [Lyrics]
Teru's SongTeshima Aoi

Aoi Teshima’s first single, released in June 2006.

It’s the theme song for Studio Ghibli’s film Tales from Earthsea, composed by Hiroko Taniyama.

With a melody that’s somewhat nursery rhyme- or folk-like, it’s a very straightforward, easy-to-sing piece, making it a perfect choice if you’re aiming for a high karaoke score.

In her own performance, she skillfully uses falsetto and mixed voice in places like the high notes of the chorus, but if you’re just an everyday singer wanting to enjoy it at karaoke, you don’t need to be that particular.

Find a key that suits you and try singing gently.

If you push your voice too hard, you risk ruining the song’s atmosphere, so keep it soft and gentle throughout.

Singing gently yet firmly is actually quite difficult, though.

If this kind of thing interests you, please come to my vocal training!

TomorrowFurui Riho

Singer-songwriter Furui Riho, who has gained popularity for her R&B-centered musical style.

When people hear R&B, many imagine it as difficult because advanced vocal techniques like melisma and falls appear frequently as if they were standard features.

That’s why I recommend Tomorrow.

This song has a very strong J-pop influence and doesn’t feature any tricky melismas at all.

On top of that, the vocal range is narrow, making it a perfect choice if you’re aiming for a high score.

Ojamajo Carnival!!MAHO dō

Ojamajo Carnival!! is an upbeat, bright, and energetic song.

It’s surprisingly popular at karaoke, and I sing it often too! When you listen, it can sound tricky, but once you actually try singing it, the range isn’t that demanding; as long as you lock into the rhythm, it’s an anime song where high scores are easy to aim for.

That said, the tempo is fast, so the lyrics will end up being a bit of a tongue-twister.

If you move your body too much to keep the beat, you might slip off, so it might help to keep a slightly forward-leaning posture! Interestingly, Masaaki Endoh, known for his tokusatsu songs, has also covered Ojamajo Carnival!! His version is pretty rock-heavy—so much so that from the intro you might be like, “Huh?” because it barely resembles the original—but men should definitely give Endoh’s version a listen!

rainbow-coloredayaka

Ayaka / “Nijiiro” (Theme song for the NHK morning drama series “Hanako to Anne”) Music Video (Short Ver.)
rainbow-coloredayaka

It’s Ayaka’s 13th single, released first digitally in April 2014 and then on CD in June of the same year.

When you think of Ayaka, you probably think of a powerhouse vocalist, so many people might hesitate to sing her songs at karaoke.

But Nijiiro has a very friendly, easy-to-remember melody, so if you don’t focus too much on imitating her vocal style, I think it’s not that hard to score high.

Try singing it while keeping the song’s light, brisk feel and being careful not to make it too heavy.

Swampiri

Swampiri

iri is a female R&B singer who has garnered popularity for her uniquely captivating low voice and sophisticated musicality.

While she has released a number of urban R&B tracks up to now, she’s just put out an alternative R&B song with fewer traditional R&B elements.

That song is Swamp.

This work features almost none of the advanced techniques commonly heard in R&B, such as riffs/runs and falls.

On top of that, the vocal range is wide, making it highly recommended for those who want to score well when performing this kind of Black music.

Perfume is a dance-vocal group that has remained at the forefront for many years.

Their new track, “Cosmic Treat,” is a playful number that starts with an intro reminiscent of 16-bit game sounds and unfolds into a city-pop-style tune.

The vocal line is very simple, with no sharp rises or drops in pitch and a relatively narrow range.

Since the long tones aren’t particularly long either, anyone who can hold their pitch accurately should be able to aim for a high score without much difficulty.
