The Renkasai, held every fall at the University of Niigata Prefecture, is pronounced “Rengasai.” The name reflects several features: the campus buildings are made of brick (renga), the water plant Monochoria korsakowii (mizuaoi) grows naturally nearby, and Niigata Prefecture leads Japan in tulip production and shipments. True to its name, it’s a school festival brimming with energy.
