Pre-Hachioji Festival | Kogakuin UniversitySaturday, May 16, Tokyo Metropolis
Every year we choose a theme and hold events based on it, with plenty of food stalls and more. Stage programs with strong parody elements are also highlights. After the Pre-Hachioji Festival, we host the “Walkathon,” a roughly 43 km trek from the Hachioji Campus to the Shinjuku Campus, where participants aim to reach the finish while passing through checkpoints.

The May Festival is held in May on the Hongo and Yayoi campuses of the University of Tokyo, the undisputed top university in Japan in both name and substance. As expected, it’s a large-scale event, reportedly drawing about 150,000 visitors every year. In addition to the uniquely academic programs you’d expect from UTokyo, there are plenty of events like live performances, making it enjoyable for a wide range of people.

The school festival at Taisho University in Nishisugamo, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, is called the “Oshidaisai.” “Oshidai” originally refers to Taisho University itself and was named with the hope that, as a hilltop in Sugamo, it would become a gathering place for local residents. True to its name, it’s a festival beloved by many in the community, bringing together countless smiles every year.
