Born in Kyoto in 1957. Started teaching himself piano at age 3 and drums at 14. Began performing live primarily in the Kansai area at 19, then based his activities in Tokyo for 10 years from age 27, gaining a wide range of experience in the major scene. In 1994, he moved his base of operations to Kyoto and built a recording studio. Alongside his producing work, he also performed energetically live. In 2007, he formed the band FRIDGE, in which he is also the drummer, and produced their recording in New York, filling all 12 tracks with his own original compositions. In 2008, he renamed 4029—the tour band of his late mentor, Shinji Shiotsugu—to 8823, and produced an album with the remaining members, including himself. In June 2018, to mark the 10th anniversary of Shinji Shiotsugu’s passing, he produced the tribute album Long Distance Call From Kyoto. Since then, he has continued to tour nationwide with these two bands at a pace of over 100 shows a year. Furthermore, in order to foster the next generation and create a place for musicians to connect, he hosts a monthly event, “Tetsuji Horio’s Bring It On Jam Session,” at Live Spot RAG. Centered on blues and funk, he is dedicated to cultivating a passionate music scene day by day.
