Check Your MicShinpeita

Shinpeita, a rapper who’s been killing it on YouTube lately.
He’s announced his retirement, but then he pops back up in battles, so it’s kind of hard to know what’s going on.
As a head, though, I’m happy to see Shinpeita—one of the strongest out there—in action (lol).
Among his tracks, the one I especially recommend is ‘Check Your Mic.’ It’s straight-up hip-hop, with satisfying rhymes and a tight, no-frills, steady flow that really stands out.
10000ftID

Yes, he’s a genius (lol).
“10000ft,” the classic track by 3rd-generation Monster’s ID.
He racks up wins in battles with a flow that feels anything but Japanese, and that talent is fully on display in his recorded work too.
This song features a track with a house-music vibe, and ID’s rapping takes a relatively understated role.
It’s a track you enjoy for the cohesive melody.
The sound feels more European—think France or Poland—than US.
He’s a rapper with overwhelming talent among Japanese artists.
His taste in production is likely top one or two in Japan.
place of belongingSIMON JAP

Among battle MCs, wouldn’t SIMON JAP be the most hardcore? People say the other Simon is better, but this Simon is top-tier too (lol).
In battles, he often drops hardcore punchlines while keeping a decent rhyme scheme, and his recorded tracks feature insanely hardcore rhymes that are really compelling.
His voice is on the thinner side, so he can lack impact at times, but he’s the type of MC who makes up for it with pure vibes.
really?!Nidra Assassin

Right now, it’s no exaggeration to say that Nidra Assassin is one of the most popular rappers in the MC battle scene.
If you only watch battles, you might not know this, but his recorded tracks are extremely high level—he’s top tier in the trap scene.
A project that fully showcases his appeal is “really?!”.
While the flow is rough around the edges, that rawness actually becomes part of its charm, resulting in a highly addictive track.
Since he can deliver this level of flow even in battles, if you like his battle style, definitely give it a listen!
MATCHSTICKSukukun feat. CHICO CARLITO

This is a collaboration between CHICO CARLITO, the first-generation Monster from Freestyle Dungeon, and Suikun, the second-generation Monster.
I think many people usually see Suikun and CHICO CARLITO as cute—or rather, gentle—types.
And they really are calm in person.
But MATCHSTICK is crafted with lyrics that are a bit different from that image—fairly serious! It’s quite emotional, and Suikun’s verse in particular really hits you right in the heart.
Definitely check it out!
Patterns of the heartChipuruso

Chipruso, a rapper representing Osaka.
He’s not super active these days, but back in the day he was hugely popular as a formidable battle MC.
In battles, he’d roll out insanely vibey punchlines and overpower his opponents.
Contrary to that battle image, his real charm lies in crafting extremely stylish tracks.
Watching him rap while playing classical guitar showcases a unique personality and style.
Highly recommended if you’re into chill hip-hop!

Change My LifeIn Man

As his name makes clear, Mr.
Rhyme-Man is all about rhyming.
He loves rhymes so much he doesn’t even call himself a rapper—he calls himself just a rhyme maniac, a man who loves rhymes and is loved by them.
In battles, he just keeps stacking rhymes.
He piles them on to the point where you want to shout, “You’re going that far?!” (lol).
Since rhymes are the top priority, his responses can be pretty chaotic, but lately his comeback game has improved.
“Change My Life” is his long-awaited track.
He’s a fan of US rap, and you can hear that in this song.
I think the flow is quite good.
