I’ll show you how to make a size-adjustable headband that has elastic threaded through it and a ribbon you can retie.
Prepare two pieces of fabric measuring 30×10 cm, one piece measuring 27×6 cm, and one 15 cm piece of elastic.
Fold each 30×10 cm piece in half right sides together, and mark a point 10 cm up from the bottom.
Cut from the bottom to the mark in a gentle curve.
Next, sew the open long edge with a 1 cm seam allowance.
Without cutting the stitching, trim the tip slightly and snip notches along the curve at 2 cm intervals.
Sew the 27×6 cm fabric into a tube and thread the elastic through it.
Combine the ribbon parts with the elastic part, and you’re done.
Double Ribbon Headband
Here’s an idea for a hairband with lovely double ribbons.
The ribbons can slide, so you can adjust their position depending on the baby’s movements.
First, cut the main fabric to 8 cm by 30 cm and sew it into a tube.
Do the same with a 7 cm by 30 cm strip for the elastic casing, thread the elastic through it, and sew it to the main fabric.
You can choose any ribbon size you like, but prepare two rectangular pieces sewn into tubes.
Slightly offset the two pieces, layer them, accordion-fold them, then stitch the center to form ribbons.
Finally, take a piece measuring 8 cm by 4 cm, fold it into thirds, and use it to attach the ribbons to the main band to finish.
Be careful not to sew the ribbons directly onto the band so they can slide.

Do not tie a knot at the start.

First, prepare fabric measuring 8×32 cm, elastic 14 cm long, and fabric for the elastic measuring 7×30 cm.
For the ribbon, also cut pieces measuring 22×16 cm and 8×4 cm.
Fold the headband piece in half, leave a 5 cm opening in the center for turning, and sew.
Next, sew both ends with a 1 cm seam allowance.
Turn the fabric right side out through the opening.
Sew the elastic casing into a tube and turn it right side out, then thread the elastic through.
Attach the elastic to the headband, add the ribbon, and you’re done.
Headband with a big ribbon
Let me introduce a handmade idea for a headband with a cute big ribbon.
This one is finished simply by sewing the fabric into a tube, so it’s great for beginners.
First, cut the fabric for the headband body and the ribbon from any fabric you like.
For the body, cut it to fit your child’s head size, and for the ribbon, round off both sides.
Sew both pieces into pouch shapes, leaving a small opening for turning, then turn them right side out.
Insert elastic into the body piece and stitch the opening closed, then tie the ribbon piece onto the body to finish.
Since the ribbon isn’t sewn on, you can make several and switch them out to match your mood.

First, cut two pieces of fabric to 38 × 14 cm.
Cut elastic to 12 cm.

Fold each 38 cm fabric piece in half and sew 1 cm from the edge.
Press the seam open with an iron, then turn the tubes right side out.
Cross the two turned tubes at the center, then fold the ends diagonally, overlap the edges, and sew them together.
Sew the elastic-cover fabric into a tube, then combine it with the elastic and the crossed main pieces to finish.
elastic headband
Headbands can be stiff and uncomfortable for babies, right? So here’s an idea for a headband with a fabric band and an adjustable elastic.
First, cut your fabric.
For the main band, cut a piece 100 cm wide; for the bow, 18 cm wide by 10 cm tall; and for the strip that secures the bow to the band, 5 cm wide by 7 cm tall.
Sew the main fabric into a tube, thread elastic through it, and stitch it closed.
For the bow, sew the fabric into a tube, then tuck in both ends, shape it into a bow, and stitch.
Fold the small strip into thirds, then use it to attach the bow to the main band and sew in place.

Ribbon headband
Let’s make a cute headband with a big, vivid ribbon.
First, cut the fabric you want to use for the headband to 16 × 62.5 cm.
Fold it in half and sew it together with a zigzag stitch, then turn it right side out.
Next, sew the ends together and mark a point 10 cm from one end.
Stitch firmly along the marked section.
Adjust it so that the stitched part is at the center and form the ribbon shape.
Sew the center of the ribbon, and you’re done! It looks adorable whether you use solid-colored fabric or patterned fabric.

In the video, beads are used in the center, but to prevent accidental swallowing, we recommend leaving the beads out.
Once you choose your sewing yarn, use chain stitches and single crochets to form the flower shape.
From the third round, work treble crochets to create the petals.
After making six petals, finish off the yarn.
Then make one more flower to add to the center; for this one, crochet the petals in the second round.
Once you sew the two flowers together, crochet the band back and forth, attach it to the flower, and you’re done.
Japanese-style headband
Handmade headbands that complement kimono are also recommended for occasions like a baby’s first shrine visit or the celebratory first meal.
First, prepare one sheet of felt in your preferred color, a round cord with a Japanese pattern, an elastic cord, and a floral embellishment.
You’ll also need fabric glue.
Cut the felt to 8.5 × 5.5 cm.
Fold it in half, then fold both ends outward in half again.
Shape it into a bow and temporarily secure the center.
Next, tie about 25 cm of round cord into a bow.
Attach this tied cord to the center of the felt.
Sew the elastic into a loop, then use about 7 cm of round cord to fasten the bow to the elastic to finish.
