Padded, fluffy water bottle cover

Let’s try making a fluffy, padded water bottle cover by hand! You’ll need outer fabric, single-sided fusible quilt batting, a tab, hook-and-loop tape (Velcro), a handle, and a D-ring.
If you want a shoulder style, also prepare a strap, swivel hooks, and a slide adjuster.
Create a pattern sized to your bottle, cut the fabric and batting, then sew them together with a sewing machine.
Once the cylindrical body is made, attach the hook-and-loop tape, D-ring, and handle to finish.
A soft, padded cover helps prevent dents and scratches if the bottle is dropped, so you can carry it with peace of mind.
Tenugui water bottle cover

Here’s an idea for making a canteen cover using a tenugui (Japanese hand towel).
Cut the fabric to fit the size of your bottle, fold it in half with right sides facing and sew it into a horizontal tube.
Turn it right side out, then fold it in half, and attach a short looped strip (the handle) and a long strip at the opening.
Finally, create gussets at four points so the bottom forms a cross, and you’re done! Thread the long strip through the short handle loop to cover the bottle.
This might be a perfect idea for carrying a bottle when wearing kimono or other traditional Japanese attire.
water bottle cover with adjustable strap

Shoulder-hanging water bottle covers are convenient to carry, but if the strap is too long it can catch on your legs and make walking difficult, and if it’s too short it feels tight and restricts your movement.
With a cover that has an adjustable strap, however, you don’t have to worry about any of that! The construction is very simple: cut the fabric to fit your bottle, sew it together, attach hook-and-loop tape and D-rings, then thread a strap fitted with an adjuster.
You don’t even need to visit a specialty craft store—everything you need can be picked up easily at 100-yen shops and the like.

bag-in bottle cover

When you put a water bottle or a plastic bottle in your bag, it always ends up tipping over, right? In situations like that, I recommend this in-bag bottle holder.
There are ways to make a bottle holder by creating a boxed bottom with gussets, but this one is made by sewing a circular bottom piece to the side fabric.
That way, a standing bottle stays more stable.
Also, the handle has a snap button that opens, so you can hook it onto your bag’s handle to keep it from falling over inside the bag.
Sewing the circular bottom to the side fabric with a machine is a bit tricky, but there aren’t any other difficult steps, so give it a try if you like.
Paracord water bottle cover

Paracord is short for parachute cord—a sturdy rope made from nylon or polyester.
If you weave it into a tube large enough to fit a water bottle, you’ll have a stylish bottle cover that’s easy to carry while showcasing the bottle’s design.
The key to a clean finish is keeping the weave evenly spaced.
A single color looks chic and cool, but using two colors makes it even more stylish.
It’s an idea that overturns the notion that “bottle covers are made of fabric”—give it a try!
Laminated fabric water bottle cover

Why not try making a water bottle cover with laminated fabric that resists dirt and won’t get wet even if something spills inside? Cut out the bottom piece and the side piece, and first sew the side piece into a tube.
Next, sew on the bottom piece, then turn the fabric right side out.
Fold the top opening inward by about 1 cm and secure it with fabric adhesive to finish! This method is simple, but since the fabric doesn’t stretch much, be careful with sizing.
If you want to wear it over the shoulder, try attaching D-rings and bag webbing.
Leather craft canteen cover

Why not try making a leather water bottle cover? It’s a great idea for anyone who wants a stylish cover that stands out from the rest.
First, wrap the leather around the side of the bottle and cut it to size.
Be sure to cut it a bit longer.
If you’re concerned about the leather’s fuzziness, apply Tokonole to the inside.
Cut six 1 cm-wide pieces of adhesive zipper tape, then stick three along the outer edge of the leather and three on the inside of the opposite edge—and you’re done! Feel free to personalize it by writing text with a heat pen or adding other decorations.
