It’s a bit of a large setup, but here’s an idea for an endlessly exciting whack-a-mole game that would even impress an arcade.

You’ll need cardboard, PVC pipes, pool noodles, paper cups, and so on.

Pool noodles can be found at 100-yen shops.

Using PVC pipes as the base, it’s built like a seesaw: when you hit one side, the other side pops up.

By using the seesaw principle, when you hit your side, a mole pops up on your opponent’s side; they hit theirs, and so on—creating an endless back-and-forth whack-a-mole battle.

Set a time limit and face off!

Turn the handle and they pop out! Whack-a-mole made from cardboard

This is a whack-a-mole toy you can make out of cardboard.

It’s fun because when you twist the button on the side of the box, a mole pops out of a hole.

The inside is made from things like cardboard, a plastic wrap core, and rubber bands, using the principle of a seesaw.

There are some fiddly steps, like combining a small square box with a cardboard rectangular prism, and attaching a disk to the wrap core, but it’s impressive how the mole’s head drops down once after being hit and then pops back up again.

Above all, you get to enjoy the real charm of a handmade toy, so give it a try!

Here’s an idea for a whack-a-mole-style game using a partition, balls, and soft sticks like pool noodles.

First, use the partition to divide the playing area between the “mole” and the person who whacks.

At the start signal, the person playing the mole will pop a ball over the partition or stick out their head.

If a ball appears, hit it with the stick; if a head appears, gently pat it.

This game helps train reflexes and decision-making, so feel free to try it out.

It’s also great for getting some exercise.

This whack-a-mole idea is a bit challenging, but it’s recommended for those who want to build a more authentic, fully featured mechanism.

When you press a button, a mole pops out from a hole cut in cardboard.

Inside, a wire is bent into a complex shape; bending that wire according to the template is a little tricky, but once you get past that, you’re free to combine the moles as you like, put on the lid, and you’re done.

For the round holes in the lid, attach nonwoven fabric from the underside with slits cut into it, allowing the moles to pop through.

Whack-a-mole with toilet paper rolls

Here’s an idea for making a whack-a-mole toy using a toilet paper roll.

First, seal one end of the toilet paper roll with duct tape, then attach construction paper to the side and draw the mole’s face.

Cut slits along the rim on the open end (the side opposite the sealed end) and glue on a pair of wooden chopsticks to serve as the handle.

Next, cut out the bottom of a paper cup and trim the side to create a channel for the chopsticks to pass through.

Place the paper cup over the mole, fix the cup to the base, and you’re done.

Move the chopsticks up and down to make the mole pop in and out.
