Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.

Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.

High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.

This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.

High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.

Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.

It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!

That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.

If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

AkariSakiyama Soshi

Soushi Sakiyama / Akari [Official Music Video]
AkariSakiyama Soshi

This is singer-songwriter Soshi Sakiyama’s 10th major-label single, released digitally in July 2023.

It was selected as the ending theme for the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death.

Sakiyama is known for his appealing, slightly boyish voice rich in higher overtones, and in this track you can enjoy an exceptionally diverse and dynamic range of vocal colors.

I highly recommend listening all the way through and savoring each section of the song.

For aspiring singers, it also serves as a showcase of various vocal techniques and expressive styles that can be used as a practical reference.

ENDLESS RAINX JAPAN

X JAPAN 『ENDLESS RAIN』(HD)
ENDLESS RAINX JAPAN

This is X Japan’s (known as X at the time of release) second major-label single (fourth overall), released in December 1989.

It was reportedly the band’s first ballad.

It’s a ballad distinguished by piano and a luxurious string arrangement.

The vocalist Toshi, well known for his high tenor voice, showcases his appeal beautifully on this elegant ballad.

It’s a track where you can fully savor his high notes with a slightly husky edge.

It’s also wonderful that even at the highest points of the vocal melody, he sings without resorting to falsetto.

GReeeeN – “Hoshikage no Yell” Lyric Video Full Ver. (with chord chart) NHK Morning Drama Series “Yell” Theme Song
Cheer of StarlightGReeeeN

This is GReeeeN’s 34th single, released in June 2020.

It was also selected as the theme song for the NHK morning drama series “Yell.” Sung with a so-called “high voice” rich in higher overtones, it’s a perfect recommendation for men with naturally high chest voices.

While it makes extensive use of soft expressions in falsetto, there are also parts where even higher notes are sung in chest voice, making it clear that falsetto isn’t being used as a crutch.

For the high-tone sections in chest voice, be mindful of keeping your throat from constricting; if you focus on healthy vocal production, it will sound great.

On the edge (chop)B’z

The tune is up-tempo and has that distinctly B’z rock vibe.

Guitarist Matsumoto’s technique shines, and Inaba’s vocals soar to high notes in the chorus like another instrument.

Inaba’s voice has a sharp edge—it’s the kind of voice that seems made for rock.

Beyond the purple nightsupittsu

Led by Masamune Kusano, who effortlessly sings high notes, Spitz is a rock band that made its major debut in 1991.

Kusano’s voice is beautifully clear and expansive, and listening to it somehow evokes a nostalgic, calming feeling.

“Murasaki no Yoru wo Koete” is a single released in 2021, the 30th anniversary of Spitz’s debut, and it was used as the ending theme for TBS’s NEWS23.

Try tackling the high note at the end of the C melody and add it to your repertoire!

glass windowKing Gnu

A digital single by King Gnu, released in September 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for the film ‘Don’t Call It Mystery.’ King Gnu’s vocalist Daiki Tsuneta is a singer with remarkable vocal prowess, masterfully controlling a wide range of techniques and expressive nuances.

His vocal charm can be fully appreciated even in this melancholic, gently soothing track.

I can confidently recommend this song to anyone who loves high tenor male vocals.

Official HIGE DANDism – TATTOO [Official Video]
TATOOOfisharu Higedan Dism

It’s Official HIGE DANDism’s 10th digital-only single, released in April 2023.

It was reportedly written as the theme song for the TBS Friday drama “Pending Train — 8:23, Tomorrow With You.” Satoshi Fujihara, who serves as the vocalist for Official HIGE DANDism, is a singer known for his compelling, resonant voice rich with attractive higher overtones, and that vocal appeal is fully on display here as it meshes with the lively, medium-tempo track in a major key.

If you enjoy powerful male high-tone vocals, this is a song I highly recommend.
