Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.
Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.
High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.
This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.
High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.
Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.
It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!
That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.
If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

RomanticismMrs. GREEN APPLE

How about a pop, energetic rock number? It’s a song by the five-member mixed-gender rock band Mrs.
GREEN APPLE.
Released in 2019 as their ninth single.
Vocalist Motoki Omori’s high-pitched voice is so pleasing to listen to.
The lyrics are written from the perspective of a man with an unrequited love.
It’s a track I especially want people currently in love to hear.
bookmarkkuriipuhaipe

How about some exhilarating guitar rock? It’s a song by the four-piece rock band CreepHyp.
It’s included on their 2018 album “Nakitakunaru Hodo Ureshii Hibi ni” (On Days So Happy They Make You Want to Cry).
The track was originally created as a campaign song for “FM802×TSUTAYA ACCESS.” Ozaki Sekai-kan’s distinctive high-tone vocals are seriously addictive.
junkYonezu Kenshi

Kenshi Yonezu’s masterpiece “Garakuta.” Unlike his recent stylish musical direction, this track features a sound reminiscent of his massive hit “Lemon.” While it’s an orthodox pop ballad, it includes a demanding section in the chorus where falsetto and chest voice switch back and forth repeatedly.
Since Yonezu isn’t widely associated with high notes, it’s a rare chance to savor his falsetto.
If you want to discover a new side of him, be sure to check it out.
Before the sweat driesshiyun

Singer Shiyun, known as a member of the utaite group KnightA -KishiA-, has been very active lately as a solo artist as well, drawing attention from across the utaite scene.
Among his songs, the one I especially recommend for its striking high notes is “Before the Sweat Dries.” It’s produced with a pretty intense sound, and the high sections mainly feature a slightly shouted style.
Tracks like this are rare in Japan, so be sure to give it a listen.
Love SongGReeeeN

This is GReeeeN’s third single, released in May 2007.
It’s crafted as a track where you can enjoy high-tone vocals sung with a powerful, projected voice.
If you try to imitate them by forcing your voice and tightening your throat, you’ll almost certainly damage your voice and throat, so be careful when singing.
To reproduce these high tones, it’s essential to master a chest-voice–leaning mixed voice with minimal breath leakage.
HOWEVERGLAY

This is the track released in 1997 when GLAY achieved their first million-seller.
After its release, it was used as the ending theme for the drama “Ryakuatsuai: Abunai Onna” starring Hidekazu Akai.
It’s still a staple song often played at weddings today.
A hallmark is how TERU’s powerful high notes build up more and more toward the final chorus! TERU himself still sings it in the original key, but when you book it for karaoke, you’ll almost always be advised to lower the key by about two steps…
Bridge of Gloryyuzu

This was Yuzu’s 21st single, released in July 2004.
It served as the official theme song for NHK’s coverage of the Athens Olympics.
Yuzu is known for their clear, translucent high tones, and this track is no exception—you can enjoy beautifully transparent high-tone harmonies.
It’s also remarkable how they deliver such a high-key song without resorting to falsetto.
