Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.

Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.

High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.

This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.

High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.

Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.

It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!

That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.

If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

R/E/D/Kizu

Right now, among up-and-coming visual kei bands, Kizu is drawing attention in the scene for their especially high level.

This year they even pulled off a successful solo show at the Budokan, and their momentum just keeps growing.

R/E/D/ is their new song.

The vocalist, Lime, is known for his use of high tones, and in this track he delivers top-tier high notes you won’t usually hear in mainstream pop.

If you like powerful high vocals with some shouts mixed in, definitely give it a listen.

Spitz / Nekochigura (from the film “Spitz Concert 2020: An Evening of Nekochigura”)
cat chigura (traditional straw cat house)supittsu

This was Spitz’s first single produced remotely, released digitally in June 2020.

Many of you may be wondering, “What is remote production?” To explain briefly: normally, when a band or artist makes a recording, the members and staff gather in a studio to do the tracking and other work there.

In this case, however, the song was reportedly created solely by exchanging audio files among the members.

What a time we live in! As of the time of writing (July 2020), this is Spitz’s latest song, and Masamune Kusano—long praised for his high vocals—sounds as strong as ever here.

He effortlessly handles an extremely challenging melody with lots of sudden leaps to high notes.

Those highs are likely produced with mixed voice, and what’s especially noteworthy is how seamlessly his registers connect.

A track included on Mrs.

GREEN APPLE’s mini-album “Unity,” released in July 2022.

It was made available for digital streaming ahead of the album in May of the same year.

Motoki Omori, the vocalist of Mrs.

GREEN APPLE, is known for a voice rich in highly appealing upper overtones, and that signature sound shines in this song as well.

In addition to his naturally bright, high register, he deftly switches among various high-tone techniques to deliver a superb performance that brings the song to life.

It’s a track I can confidently recommend to anyone who loves high-tone male vocals.

I also think it’s very useful as a reference piece for aspiring singers.

Snow Man is a boy group that enjoys overwhelming support from women in their teens and twenties.

Their performances, influenced by K-pop idols, are striking, and every song they release becomes a hit.

Among their tracks, the one I especially recommend is One.

The highlight of this song is, without a doubt, the part at the end of the chorus.

The way the melody ascends like climbing stairs and naturally transitions into falsetto is incredibly refreshing to listen to.

If you like gentle high-note sections, be sure to check it out.

AS ONEUVERworld

AS ONEUVERworld

UVERworld’s 36th single, released in March 2020.

It was chosen as the theme song for the film “Masked Ward,” which premiered on March 6, 2020.

As with all of UVERworld’s songs, this track also features TAKUYA∞’s trademark upper-mid to high range singing with frequent use of a slightly strong mixed voice.

His tone gives the impression of having a fair amount of breathiness, making me think he might be driving the vocal cords strongly with breath power.

From the standpoint of correct vocal technique, it might be better to relax a bit more in the higher range, but this very voice is part of TAKUYA∞’s appeal, so it definitely works! That said, if someone without a solid foundation in vocal technique tries to imitate this, they’ll almost certainly strain their throat, so please be careful when singing it at karaoke and the like.

Basking in love, I am here.C&K

When it comes to high-pitched voices, I think of these two.

In this gospel-tinged song, their vocals are so clear that you can truly feel how amazing they are.

Their voices soar even higher than many female gospel singers, and when the gospel elements are added to the world the two of them create on their own, the result is a track that feels almost divine.

Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

A digital-download-only single by Kenshi Yonezu, released on June 3, 2019 across various music streaming services.

It was also included on his tenth single, “Uma to Shika,” released in September of the same year.

The song was created as the theme for the animated feature film Children of the Sea.

It showcases Yonezu’s characteristic use of mixed voice, and practicing this song can be helpful for mastering that technique.
