We’d like to introduce songs by Kyosuke Himuro, the musician who took the world by storm as the vocalist of BOØWY.

Himuro made his solo debut in July 1988, just three months after BOØWY disbanded, and he has continued his solo career ever since.

His straightforward rock sound and refreshing vocals are captivating, and he continues to enchant many fans today.

Interestingly, before forming BOØWY, Himuro was about to quit music and return to his hometown, but just before leaving, he saw an RC Succession concert and became determined to continue with music.

Kyosuke Himuro’s Greatest and Most Popular Songs (1–10)

HEATHimuro Kyosuke

It’s included on the 1997 album “I・DE・A.” It was used as the theme song for the DyDo Blend Coffee commercial.

After an intro with tones reminiscent of a pipe organ, it shifts into a straightforward rock sound.

Over a distinctly American rock melody, Himuro’s vocals come in with a lively, catchy impact.

It’s included on the 1988 album “FLOWERS for ALGERNON.” The artist describes it as a song dedicated to “those without dreams.” The highlights are the bass that steps to the forefront, the guitar and synth laying down the rhythm in the background, and the melody line played in a ska style.

VIRGIN BEATHimuro Kyosuke

It was included on the 1994 album “SHAKE THE FAKE.” It was used in a Camellia Diamond commercial.

The artist has said it’s one of the songs he composed using his favorite chord progression.

In the music video, Himuro stands at the tip of a crane several tens of meters above the ground; he later revealed that he wasn’t wearing a safety harness at the time, making it a very dangerous shoot.

It is included on the 2010 album “”B”ORDERLESS.” It was used as the commercial song for Asahi Soft Drinks’ “Green Cola.” Himuro’s passionately sung vocals—together with the straightforward, simple-beat drums and guitar rhythm and the emotionally stirring melody—pierce the heart.

It’s included on the 1988 album “FLOWERS for ALGERNON.” It’s a self-cover of “Starship of the Year 3001,” which he originally provided for Kyoko Koizumi’s album.

The intense, up-tempo beat of the drums and guitar blends with the urgent-feeling melody line to create a distinctive mood.

It’s included on the 2000 album “Beat haze odyssey.” It was used in a Shiseido “PN” commercial, in which Himuro himself made a rare appearance.

With a simple drum beat and hard, flashy guitars, the track has a somewhat glam rock feel.

Himuro’s vocals match the style perfectly and really lift your spirits.

MOONHimuro Kyosuke

It’s included on the 1991 album “Higher Self.” The song was created in consultation with lyricist Goro Matsui in response to the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident in China.

It’s the only track whose lyrics use the plural “we” to refer to ourselves.

The piano’s gentle, beautiful melody makes it a truly memorable ballad.
