WavesGuthrie Govan

This is a guitar instrumental by Guthrie Govan.

While it incorporates elements of experimental music, it still comes across as a pop tune.

As you’d expect from a guitar instructor, it features many unique guitar phrases that are complex and airy.

It makes difficult ideas sound catchy.

Herbie Hancock is a great pianist in the jazz field, but his name recognition on the popular music side may have been a bit limited.

However, this song, together with its shocking, avant-garde promotional video, took the world by storm all at once.

Back in 1983, that video with the robot doing a wiggly dance was nothing short of sensational.

Needless to say, the song’s high level of craftsmanship—including the arrangement—is remarkable, but what really stood out was the now-familiar “scratching.” This track is said to be the first to incorporate that performance technique.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in London in 1946, is one of the United Kingdom’s leading orchestras and is also known for collaborations and covers with rock and pop artists.

Across the album as a whole, more than 100 classical masterpieces are recorded as medleys set to a lively beat.

While it was easy to listen to and well received by listeners unfamiliar with classical music, there were also rumors that it was not particularly well regarded among classical music fans.

An avant-garde big band formed in 1989, centered around Daisuke Fuwa, with a rotating cast of various musicians and dancers.

While it’s categorized as jazz, at times it’s rock, at times Latin, and sometimes even has a chindon-ya street-band vibe—the group is bursting with festival energy.

With at least twice as many members as a typical band, their sound has an unparalleled sense of volume.
