Humming a song I’ll never listen to againThe Room is Mine

Let me introduce The Room is Mine, an instrumental band based in Tokyo.
They call themselves a “borderless off-vocal band,” and as the name suggests, they craft a sound that can be enjoyed regardless of nationality or age.
To get a feel for their appeal, why not start with their first album, “Do you have a stigmatized property: 1LDK, 10 minutes on foot from the station, separate bath and toilet, with cable TV?” The unique title makes it easy to get interested, and the sound has a refreshing vibe with a comfortable groove.
Rootsindigo jam unit

A four-piece instrumental unit.
Each member’s specialty spans a wide range—classical, jazz, funk, and Latin.
This track is a tightly executed swing number, yet it feels fresh that everyone performs in T-shirts, perhaps as part of the band’s concept.
The uninterrupted rhythm built around a single theme evokes the circulation of blood, stirring up a powerful, burning intensity.

Tsuzuri is a five-piece band formed in Kyoto in 2012.
With piano, guitar, bass, and drums, their sound is pop yet richly layered.
Perhaps influenced by their Kyoto roots, their harmoniously flowing melodies and sunlit timbres are particularly striking.
Their music seems to fit any time of day—waking up in the morning, a leisurely afternoon, or a relaxing evening.
Their intros often grab you right from the start!
DAVIDRega

The instrumental band rega, known for both their skill and popularity, even headlined the Fuji Rock pre-festival party.
The music video for “DAVID,” included on their album Among the flow, was directed by Takayuki Kojima, who has worked with Straightener, MAN WITH A MISSION, and People In The Box, resulting in a cool, minimal, and inorganic aesthetic.
Although they went on hiatus in 2017, they resumed activities two years later despite one member leaving the band.
They’re a group whose future endeavors are well worth watching.
RYDEENYellow Magic Orchestra

Here is one of the band’s signature songs, released in 1980, beloved under the name “YMO.” The new music created by the immensely talented trio of Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto still gives me goosebumps even today.
It featured an unprecedented performance style in which sounds like horse hoofbeats and various effects were sampled, on top of which instrumental playing was performed.

Behind The WindJABBERLOOP

JABBERLOOP is a four-piece club jazz band formed in Kyoto in 2004.
They made their major debut in 2007 and performed overseas for the first time in 2009.
All of the members are graduates of music or arts universities, and the rotating solo sections unique to jazz bands are one of their big attractions.
They also participate in various artists’ albums through producing and remixing, so if you haven’t listened to them yet, be sure to check them out!
ibizaSawagi

A four-piece band that delivers dance music fused with a variety of genres.
This track is an uptempo dance number with a punchy, digital low end.
