YouAgatsuma Hiromitsu

The shamisen is a popular instrument in Japan.

Hirokazu Agatsuma is expanding its possibilities by fusing it with contemporary music.

Among his works, this piece is particularly original.

While incorporating synthesizers, it remains committed to blending with traditional Japanese elements—and that dedication is what makes this track remarkable.

Le RhôneHattori Katsuhisa

A piece that is popular in Japan as a piano practice song.

It is a work by the renowned composer Katsuhisa Hattori, but I’ve heard that it’s very easy for pianists to play.

Still, its familiar melody is truly unforgettable.

Perhaps its simplicity combined with memorability is what makes it a masterpiece.

TorukiaKanno Yōko

Ghost in the Shell OST – Torukia
TorukiaKanno Yōko

This is a work by Yoko Kanno, whose talent sprouted from game and anime music and who has now become a world-renowned composer.

She reportedly doesn’t prefer to use sequencing, but when it’s requested or suits the concept of a piece, her ability to create such magnificent music is truly awe-inspiring.

On top of that, the mystical melody carried by the chorus lingers in the ears.

Masa Takumi’s “Sakura” is a Japanese-style instrumental track included on the album of the same name, which won at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

The piece’s appeal lies in how it skillfully weaves not only quintessentially Japanese instruments like the koto and shamisen, but also more distinctive timbres such as bamboo flute and erhu, creating a one-of-a-kind sonic world.

Percussion with a world-music flavor is also used effectively, delivering a unique sound that goes far beyond a simple Japanese-style instrumental number.

Treasure IslandT-SQUARE

A shining masterpiece in the history of Japanese instrumental music, woven from a dynamic melody and a lively rhythm.

This exhilarating track blends samba rhythms with a touch of jazz fusion, unfolding in a thrilling way that evokes the start of an adventure.

収録曲は1986年3月にリリースされたアルバム「S・P・O・R・T・S」に収められており、T-SQUAREのキーボーディスト、和泉宏隆によって作曲されました。

Frequently performed in wind band arrangements by schools and musical groups nationwide, it was also featured in the anime Sound! Euphonium.

It’s a highly recommended song for moments when you want to feel hopeful and positive, or when you’re ready for a fresh start.
