Eat some sushi!Shibugakitai

Shibugakitai – Eat Some Sushi! (1985)
Eat some sushi!Shibugakitai

The number that lures you out from the very start with “I want to eat sushi,” ‘Sushi Kui Nee!’ Many people were probably shocked by the pop, impactful lyrics sung by Shibugakitai, a star group representative of the Showa era.

In a time before conveyor-belt sushi, there was ‘Sushi Kui Nee!’ Their outfits, too, suited them perfectly, like true craftsmen.

This is the pinnacle of Showa entertainment: singing, dancing, and sushi chefs.

It really makes you want to eat sushi.

FantastipoToraji Haiji

(Singing Impression 16) Toraji Haiji 'Fantastipo'
FantastipoToraji Haiji

This song expresses the feeling of moving forward while looking back on a wonderful youth, set to a 1970s disco sound.

Delivered by a duo of top idols teaming up, its retro, cheerful world becomes more uplifting the more you listen.

The distinctive dance is striking, and together with the catchy melody, it makes your body move before you know it.

Released in January 2005 as a movie theme song, it topped the Oricon weekly chart for two consecutive weeks.

It colors a story about brothers who are suddenly handed their father’s company, and with its disco-style strings and the timbre of a harpsichord, the performance vividly enriches that world.

As a tune to liven up any scene, it’s sure to help create wonderful memories.

Subtly flashy (bling-bling, but nonchalant)Kondō Masahiko

One of the biggest hits by Johnny’s Entertainment’s eldest star, Masahiko Kondo, “Gingiragin ni Sarigenaku”! It remains beloved by many and has been used in numerous settings, including commercials and as a cheer song for professional baseball players.

At the 32nd NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen, it was performed as the opening number for the White Team, and at the 66th edition, it was featured as the White Team’s finale.

When it was covered by TOKIO, Kondo’s junior group from Johnny’s, the arrangement was handled by Toshihiko Takamizawa of THE ALFEE.

CreamSexy Zone

Sexy Zone’s mid-tempo track “Cream,” with its silky, creamy vocals, is perfect for dancing.

Both the lyrics and the vibe are a bit mature and stylish.

Sexy Zone, under the Johnny & Associates agency, is a male idol group that debuted in 2011.

“Cream,” their 23rd single, is featured in the TV drama “Tonari no Otoko wa Yoku Taberu” (The Man Next Door Eats a Lot).

In the music video, there are scenes of them savoring cream deliciously, letting you see their sexy yet endearing sides.

Enjoy their sweet, melt-in-your-mouth vocals—like cream—set to a danceable beat.

Beyond the Night SkySMAP

Formed in 1988 and, to much regret, disbanded in 2016, SMAP was arguably the most popular of Johnny’s idol groups—widely known and loved by everyone from children to the elderly.

Their song Yozora no Mukō has a gentle, mellow feel and is adored by a broad audience.

It’s also well known that Shikao Suga wrote the lyrics and has released a self-cover of the song.

Alphananiwa danshi

Naniwa Danshi – Alpha [Official Music Video]
Alphananiwa danshi

“Alpha” features many bright yet somewhat ballad-like, mellow phrases.

It’s a song that evokes the feel of the Heisei-era idol style, and overall it’s tied together by catchy vocals.

The vocal range for this track is mid1E to hiC.

Since it sits within a typical range and the melodic movement is similar to that of standard J-pop, it can be considered quite easy to sing.

However, because the core of the song generally centers on mid-to-high notes, if you find it a bit high, it’s better to adjust the key based on the frequently occurring mid2C rather than the highest note.

tightlySexy Zone

Sexy Zone “Gyutto” (short ver.)
tightlySexy Zone

An encouraging song by Sexy Zone that lights a warm glow in your heart, telling you to accept every version of yourself and keep going tomorrow.

Chosen as the theme song for the drama “Wagahai no Heya de Aru” starring Fuma Kikuchi, this track was released in October 2017.

It’s also known for having lyrics written by member Fuma Kikuchi and choreography created by all the members.

With a message that gently says “It’s okay” on days when things don’t go well, it’s sure to wrap listeners’ hearts in kindness.

If you listen to it when you’re a little tired or want to cheer yourself up, you might feel the tension ease from your shoulders and find a more positive outlook.
