[Childcare] A collection of ideas you’ll want to use for July wall displays!

By July, the children have gotten used to their new environment and are full of energy as they play.

Here, we’ll share wall display ideas you can use for July in childcare settings.

Speaking of July, the first thing that comes to mind is Tanabata.

To create a summery feel, the key is to use simple materials and small parts.

For example, making and putting up decorations like tanzaku strips, stars, flowers, and sun shapes will make the space feel lively.

A fun wall display brightens the atmosphere of the center.

Enjoy arranging the decorations and try creating a wonderful wall display together with the children!

Let’s try making a big ocean!

“Paint Play!” [Ages 0–2] | Gakuenchō Yūiku-en [Nursery/Kindergarten Event]
Let's try making a big ocean!

Let’s experience the joy of painting a big ocean on a large sheet of drawing paper using plenty of paint.

Lay down a plastic sheet or something similar to protect the floor, and wear clothes that can get messy so you can paint freely and boldly without worry.

There are no strict rules—use your hands, brushes, rollers, or wide brushes however you like.

Part of the fun is trying different tools; the result changes depending on what you use.

Savor the joy of creating freely.

The Tanabata of the Milky Way

Because of the weather and city lights, not many people have had the chance to really see the Milky Way on Tanabata.

With the hope of showing children this rare sight, let’s try creating a Milky Way on the wall.

Along with the Milky Way, be sure to include Orihime and Hikoboshi as well.

If the weather is bad and children worry about whether Orihime and Hikoboshi were able to meet, design the wall so the two are shown together and you can reassure them: “They did meet!” You could also combine other Tanabata elements like bamboo branches and tanzaku wish strips.

paper lantern

Many children are probably looking forward to the summer festival.

As an idea to boost the festive mood, I’d like to introduce lantern origami.

In this project, you make the lantern part by shaping your favorite color of origami paper into a circle and then recreate the look by combining it with a frame made from black origami paper.

It looks lovely as is, but you can also write characters on the lantern and use it as a wall decoration for events.

You can draw illustrations to make it cute, or draw a face and turn it into a lantern ghost, too.

Making a refreshing-looking swim ring

[For Nursery Teachers] 3 Summer Wall Decoration Ideas — Great for Infants and Toddlers, Perfect for Finger Play ♪ Montessori-Inspired
Making a refreshing-looking swim ring

Let’s make a refreshing craft of animals playing with swim rings using paper plates.

Before you begin, cut out the center of the paper plate.

For 3-year-olds, let them freely draw on the ring-shaped paper plate.

Choose materials like crayons or paint according to your class atmosphere.

It also looks cute if you add small squares cut from construction paper with a single snip.

Once the paper plate is decorated, make the motif that goes inside.

Try different methods, such as pre-cutting construction paper and having the 3-year-olds draw the faces or glue on the parts.

Your adorable craft of animals swimming with float rings is complete!

Drawing an ‘ocean’ with colored ice

[Summer Craft] Painting with Colored Ice! [For 1-Year-Olds]
Drawing an 'ocean' with colored ice

Let’s take a peek into an underwater world using refreshing ice paints.

To make ice paint, place your favorite paints or food coloring into each section of an ice tray, add water on top, and mix.

Insert a stick to make a handle, then put it in the freezer until it freezes.

While the ice paint is freezing, draw sea creatures on white drawing paper using a white crayon.

Once the ice paint is ready, brush the colors over the paper with your drawing.

The areas you drew will repel the ice paint, and your picture will magically appear.

If the teachers at a daycare or kindergarten draw the pictures and let the children do the coloring, even very young kids can enjoy this activity with ease!

Sea creatures made with paper chain links

Sea creatures made with paper chain links

Let’s use paper chains like the ones you see at birthday parties to make sea creatures! You can create animals using only paper chains, or use them as parts of your creations.

When used as parts, they can become the tentacles of octopuses, squids, or jellyfish, seaweed, or even fish scales.

By getting creative with how you link the loops, you can make starfish or shells using just paper chains, too.

Depending on the age group, it’s also a great idea to have the children help make the chains.

Gorogoro Watermelon Wall Decoration

[Summer! Wall Decorations] Mass-produce with ●▲■, easy to arrange / how to make summer wall decoration
Gorogoro Watermelon Wall Decoration

Watermelon is one of those things you really want to eat in the summer, isn’t it? Some kids might not only eat it, but also play a game of watermelon splitting.

Let’s create a wall display that depicts kids lying around and munching on this delicious summer treat, watermelon.

First, use construction paper to make children lying down.

Next, craft sliced watermelon and whole, uncut watermelons out of construction paper, and arrange them so it looks like the kids are holding them—that’s it! It may be a slightly ill-mannered way to eat, but you’ll end up with a fun piece that seems to reflect how kids feel when they just want to relax during the hot summer.
