[Childcare] Perfect craft ideas for June (1–10)

[Paint and Glue] Frog on a Rainy Day

June is the rainy season, so we often get to see rain.

Today, we’re introducing a perfect craft for June: “Rainy Day Frog.” First, use watered-down paint to create rain on construction paper.

Let the children use brushes to draw lines and dots—have them paint the rain however they like.

Next, glue the eyes, mouth, and belly pieces onto the frog base cut from construction paper.

Finally, stick the frog onto the rainy background paper—and it’s done! When attaching the parts, have the children use their fingers to apply glue to the back side.

Hydrangea Clock

How about a wall decoration that treats hydrangeas as a clock? Hydrangea blossoms have many small flowers that form a round shape, which resembles a round clock.

You could put the clock numbers on the small petals that make up the flower, or place a snail in the center to act as the clock hands.

You could also put frogs or umbrellas above the numbers to indicate, “This is the time right now.” Even if it doesn’t keep real time, as long as the design makes it clear that the clock and hydrangea are combined, it will feel stylish and capture children’s interest!

Handprint snail

During the rainy season, you’ll have more chances to spot snails in places like the playground, right? How about drawing snails using handprints! One method is to prepare the parts other than the shell with construction paper and stamp the handprint for the shell.

You can also get creative with the handprint placement and make the body from a handprint as another option.

If the teacher uses their hand, you’ll get a larger snail, but it’s also recommended to have the children help a little and use their own handprints to make snails for wall decorations.

Try creating a lively piece where the snails happily crawl along!

[Paper Cup] Bouncy Frog

Let’s make a jumping frog with paper cups and have some fun! First, attach parts made from construction paper—like the frog’s eyes, hands, and feet—to a paper cup.

Once it looks nice and froggy, cut small slits in the rim of the cup to hook rubber bands onto.

The key is to hook the rubber bands so they cross in the center of the cup.

For extra security, fasten the rubber bands with a stapler or tape so they won’t come off.

Stack the frog cup on top of another paper cup, then quickly release your hands—and your frog toy will spring boing! into the air.

Try launching them together with everyone!

Tadpoles are the larvae of frogs that appear in places where water collects, such as rivers and ponds.

Let’s create an artwork that can be used in illustrations with a rainy season theme.

First, cut a folded sheet of black origami paper, then fold it again while imagining a fish-like silhouette.

Attach round stickers with eyes drawn on them, and then stick the pieces onto a backing sheet to finish.

You can also try adding multiple tadpoles, or creating them together with seasonal illustrations like frogs and hydrangeas.

Give this crafting idea a try to brighten up wall displays on rainy days.

To mark Time Day on June 10, how about making a teru-teru bozu pendulum clock? First, glue construction paper onto a milk carton to create the clock’s base.

Next, add clock hands and tick marks to a hydrangea flower made from construction paper.

Attach the hydrangea to the top of the milk carton, and a teru-teru bozu made from tissue to the bottom so it swings gently—and you’re done.

There are many steps until completion, so it’s best to spread the project over a few days.

Through the activity, it would be great if children can deepen their interest in seasonal flowers and in clocks.

During the rainy season, when we get a lot of rain, we also see frogs more often, don’t we? The way they hop as if enjoying the rain brightens up the rainy season, which often has a gloomy image.

Here’s a craft that uses frogs as a motif, made from a toilet paper roll.

Just cut slits in the roll to make the frog’s legs, fold down the back part, and then add color to finish.

Because it’s simply a matter of cutting slits and folding, it’s easy to try, which is a key point of this craft.
