Easy for elementary school kids! Cute felt mascot crafting ideas (21–30)
flower hair tie

Let’s make a flower hair tie using felt.
All you need are a hair elastic, small pieces of a few types of felt, and a needle and thread for sewing.
First, wrap a piece of felt around the hair elastic to form a base and stitch it closed.
Place flower-shaped felt pieces on top of the felt base, position a pearl bead in the center of each flower, and sew them on.
It looks cutest if you attach about five or six flowers closely together on the base.
You can change the look just by varying the flower shapes or the pearl beads, so try customizing your design.
Sumikko Gurashi Shirokuma

This is a felt mascot inspired by Shirokuma from the ever-popular Sumikko Gurashi characters, loved by kids and adults alike.
Because the character has a simple form, even beginners should find it easy to try.
If you’re not comfortable using a needle and thread, we recommend a no-sew method! If you prepare a paper pattern in advance, it’s convenient because you can make the same item multiple times.
The method is to cut the parts and attach them using fabric double-sided tape.
If you want to take it up a notch, finishing with a blanket stitch over the double-sided tape will make it even cuter and more durable!
Totoro
Speaking of Totoro, it’s that mysterious creature that lives in the forest, right? Since forests are the common theme, pine cones make the perfect motif for a craft project.
First, paint the pine cone gray to evoke Totoro’s fur.
Then place the wider end of the pine cone at the bottom and arrange it so it gradually flares out toward the top; this will represent Totoro’s round belly.
Wrap yarn into the gaps of the pine cone and attach the face and belly parts to finish.
The key points are whether you can find a nicely rounded, spreading pine cone and how well you can express a sense of softness.
Mike
For kids who love to sing, a toy microphone is a great recommendation.
If you make it with felt, it won’t break if dropped and the risk of injury is low, so it’s a safe choice.
Create the handle and the microphone head with felt, and stuff the inside with fabric scraps or cotton.
Adding a ribbon or other accents would make it extra cute.
You can buy both felt and cotton at 100-yen shops, so try making it in your favorite colors.
Once it’s finished, sing using your microphone—you’ll enjoy a fresh, exciting feeling!
ice cream

Felt ice cream that looks cute and can be customized in many ways.
It’s also great as a handmade gift, so give it a try! Making a pattern first makes cutting the fabric easier, so it’s recommended.
The blanket stitch is commonly used to sew felt together and helps increase durability.
You can also switch it up with bar-type or double-size ice creams.
Changing the felt colors and decorative toppings will add originality, too.
Name tag

An original name tag made from felt! These cute and practical name tags are perfect for personal use or as gifts.
Use a vivid-colored felt as a horizontal base and sew your name on it in Roman letters—done! Choosing bright felt gives it a stylish look, like the packaging of foreign sweets.
How about making them together as name tags to attach to your luggage before a school trip?
donut

Felt donuts that make you want to take a bite.
They’re great because you can use them for all sorts of things—play items, interior decor, or accessory parts! Basically, you just cut the felt and do simple stitching, so even kids should find them easy to make.
Have fun customizing by changing the color combinations, donut types, and toppings you like.
If you make them smaller, they can become keychains or accessory parts, so give it a try!
