Graduation Ceremony: A Collection of Surprise Ideas That Will Move Both Adults and Children

Graduation day from kindergarten is a special day to celebrate the children’s growth.

If possible, you want to liven up the venue with memorable surprises and events, right? But when it comes time to prepare, many people may find themselves wondering, “What kind of ideas would be good?” So here, we’ve gathered ideas you can put into practice right away—surprise performances, decorations to brighten the ceremony, and handmade gifts.

Let’s work together to create a graduation ceremony that brings smiles to the children, their families, and the teachers alike!

[Graduation Ceremony] A Collection of Surprise Ideas That Will Move Both Adults and Children (71–80)

A live performance gift for the principal

A live performance gift for the principal

A comedy play and live performance by volunteer kindergarten parents.

To save the principal from the forces of evil, the children’s dads dress up as the “Ikemen Rangers” and compete in singing, and the winner chosen by the principal performs live in front of them.

With backup dancers and accompanists joining in, the graduation ceremony becomes a huge hit! The final reading of letters brings everyone to tears.

Children’s dance & musical instrument performance

Children's dance & musical instrument performance

How about having the children showcase the musical performances and dances they’ve been practicing at the graduation party? They could do a funny dance that gets everyone laughing, or perform a moving song together as a group.

Since musical performances and dances are visible expressions of the children’s growth, they’re sure to be a touching surprise for both teachers and parents.

Both options will require practice, but the effort itself will surely become a wonderful memory.

Here’s a fun surprise idea: turn the certificate of completion given at the graduation ceremony into a giant panel and display it.

Try enlarging the certificate you receive during the ceremony to cover an entire wall.

If the certificate is in horizontal format, leave the name field blank so people can stand there and take photos! It’s a clever idea to have a life-sized version of yourself appear where the name would normally be.

The children will definitely be amazed by the oversized certificate.

It also makes for a striking display that leaves a lasting impression when you look back later, so be sure to give the giant panel a try!

Wall decorations that brighten up the graduation ceremony venue are essential, aren’t they? We’d like to introduce this rainbow wall display.

The rainbow is made using the children’s handprints.

How about having the current students create it with love for the graduates who are about to spread their wings into a new world? If you put it up as a surprise at the entrance, in the hallway, or inside the venue on the day of the ceremony, the graduates will be amazed.

Many nurseries may not have infants attend on the day, but it would be wonderful to display everyone’s handprints so that the entire nursery community can send the graduates off together.

Packed with the hope that “they’ll finish every bite and enjoy it,” these homemade lunchboxes were prepared with all your heart.

No matter how hard it was to wake up early, when your children came home and said it was delicious, you probably felt joy and happiness each time, thinking, “What should I pack next?” However, you rarely get to see them actually eating their bento.

If you capture the children gleefully munching their lunches on video and play it as a surprise at the graduation ceremony or thank-you party, it will surely move the parents to tears.

Display a photo from when (someone was) a baby.

As a surprise for the graduation ceremony, how about displaying photos from when the children were babies? Ask parents in advance to lend photos so you can save digital copies on a computer or make color copies—be sure to return the originals carefully since it would be a big problem if they got damaged.

For a display method, we recommend attaching the photos to paper plates decorated cutely with craft punches and posting them up.

If you place them in the hallway or entrance the children will walk through on the day, or on the venue walls, the kids will be amazed.

I think it’s a lovely surprise that will also warm parents’ hearts as they see their child’s baby photo alongside the grown-up child standing before them.

Exit while holding hands with a guardian

As the moving graduation ceremony draws to a close, we recommend this surprise touch for the children’s exit: have them walk out hand in hand with their parents or guardians.

It’s common to see children line up behind their homeroom teacher and leave in a row, but with this idea, each child exits while holding hands with their parent or guardian.

Both the children and the adults are likely nervous during the ceremony.

By holding hands, they can relax and feel warmly reassured.

It’s a heartwarming gesture that will also touch everyone watching—please consider incorporating it!
