I’ve gathered a bunch of kid-pleasing magic tricks that are perfect for a quick performance! Children in kindergartens, daycare centers, and elementary schools all love magic.
Some kids watch intently, some want to know the secret, and others are so amazed they ask you to do it again—there are all kinds of reactions.
In this article, assuming the goal is to delight children, I’ll introduce a variety of tricks—from ones that are truly simple and over in a flash to those that require a bit of setup.

A cup that turns water into tea! (Lit. “Tea from water!? Cup”)
It’s a magic trick where the offered tea instantly turns into colorless, transparent water! You can’t help but wonder what the secret is, right? All you need is a clear glass, water, a large cloth, and a clear plastic cup.
The plastic cup is used for the preparation.
First, cut the cup open with scissors so it becomes a single sheet.
Then color the entire sheet with a brown permanent marker.
Once it’s completely dry, the prep is done.
Pour water into the clear glass and place the brown-tinted sheet you made into the glass.
The water will look like tea.
After that, simply cover the glass with the cloth and remove the sheet from inside, and the “tea” will return to plain water—an easy magic trick!
You can do calculations with playing cards!? Simple playing-card magic
In this magic trick, you do a calculation using two selected playing cards.
For example, let’s say the selected cards are a 6 and a 2.
Add 6 and 2 to get 8… then when you turn over the 8th card from the top of the deck, an 8 will appear.
This is a self-working trick, meaning it requires no sleight of hand.
By placing the 4, 8, Q, and 3 at predetermined positions in the deck beforehand, doing the math will make the correct card appear from the deck.
At the beginning, you show three cards, but in fact all three are 6s—and the next three cards are all 2s!
A magic trick where you guess the number someone rolled on a die!
Here’s a magic trick using dice.
Prepare three dice and have someone roll all of them once.
Ask them to remember the total of the numbers shown.
Next, flip two of the dice to their opposite faces and add the new numbers to the original total.
Then hide one of the flipped dice, roll the remaining dice again, and have them remember the new total after adding the numbers shown.
The magician will guess this final number.
The method is simple: just add 14 to the sum of the numbers showing on the two dice that aren’t hidden.
Magic where numbers transfer onto your hand
In this magic trick, the number written on a sugar cube mysteriously transfers onto your hand.
First, have your child choose a number and write it with a pencil on any face of the sugar cube.
Hold the cube so that the written face is pressed against your thumb without revealing it, and drop the cube into a glass of water.
At this point, the number has been transferred onto your thumb.
While the sugar dissolves, ask your child to put a hand over the top of the glass to act as a lid.
As they hold out their hand, naturally guide it so you can press your thumb—now bearing the transferred number—onto their palm, and let them “cover” the glass.
After a short wait, remove their hand and have them look at their palm: the number will be visible.
It’s simple yet looks wonderfully mysterious and is sure to be a hit!
Magic Cup
Let me introduce a magic trick perfect for a fun segment: the “Magic Cup”! Prepare some cardstock and colored paper, then cut them into the shape of a cup and create the mechanism.
Have the children chant a magic spell together, and show how the juice in the cup seems to gradually increase—it’s sure to excite them.
You can also cover the cup with a towel while your hands are moving to build suspense about what will happen to the juice.
Another fun idea is to reveal a piece of fruit that has turned into juice when you remove the towel.
Use these kinds of twists to delight the children!
Ball Penetration! Cups & Balls
This is a penetration magic trick using commercially available magic sets, each with three cups and balls.
You place a ball between stacked cups and tap the top; the ball appears to pass through or to move into a separate cup set aside.
At first glance it looks very difficult, right? But the secret is surprisingly simple! You thought there were only three balls, but in fact there’s a fourth one! The key to this trick is moving that fourth ball between cups without letting the audience realize it exists.
It really tests the art of presentation, which is the essence of magic.

The answer is always 3!? A mysterious calculation
Have the audience think of a favorite number, then follow your instructions to calculate.
First, add 1 to the number they thought of.
Next, double that result and then add 4.
After that, divide by 2, and finally subtract the original number they thought of… Did the answer come out to 3? With this curious calculation, no matter what number they start with, if they follow the steps correctly, they will always end up with 3.
Since the audience likely doesn’t know it will be 3, reveal that you had predicted the number after they get their answer to amaze them.
