Female vocal songs where women with low voices can shine

In Japan, where a high voice is often considered “good,” the reason originally lies in the country’s agrarian roots.

To communicate by voice with farmers working at a distance, a higher, more intelligible pitch was more convenient; thus, in Japan and other agrarian Asian societies, people with higher voices have traditionally been preferred.

However, when it comes to singing, higher is not always better!

In fact, lower voices have overwhelming advantages in overtones and resonance.

So this time, we’ve picked out songs that bring out the maximum charm of women with lower voices!

Of course, we also selected them with karaoke appeal in mind, so if you’re a woman with a drinking party or group date coming up, this is a must-see.

Female vocal songs where low-voiced women can shine (21–30)

Dinner Songtuki.

Dinner Songtuki.

This is tuki.’s debut single, released in September 2023.

It’s a track where the simple arrangement that highlights the acoustic sound and tuki.’s emotionally rich vocals are a perfect match.

To sing the A-melody and B-melody parts beautifully, a deep, low register is essential! So I’d especially recommend it at karaoke for women who are good at lower notes.

That said, the vocal melody spans a fairly wide range, so be sure to practice smoothly switching from chest voice to falsetto in the high sections, such as the chorus.

Angel’s RestHisamatsu Fumina

Angel's Rest — Fumina Hisamatsu — PV
Angel’s RestHisamatsu Fumina

Fumina Hisamatsu’s fifth single, released in November 1992.

This may sound a bit colloquial, but Hisamatsu is a really cool singer with a solid, rock-like, powerful voice.

That said, it’s not a stereotypically masculine tone; it still works beautifully as a female vocal, which is wonderful.

In this song too, her voice and delivery mesh perfectly with the rock-arranged, highly pop-leaning melody.

It’s a track I’d love to see all the rock-loving ladies sing.

SakuraMyuk

SakuraMyuk

Myuk is the solo project of Miyu Kumagawa, who had been active as a singer-songwriter.

Myuk is known for having many distinctive songs, and among them, the one I especially recommend for women with lower voices is Sakura.

Its appeal lies in a melody that honors traditional Japanese aesthetics, and at times it features vocal techniques reminiscent of folk music.

While the overall range is fairly wide, the astonishingly low pitch of the A section will draw out the charm of singers with deeper voices.

youKōda Kumi

Kumi Koda / “you” (from the new album “WINTER of LOVE”)
youKōda Kumi

Kumi Koda’s 19th single, released in December 2005.

Kumi Koda is also a singer whose appeal lies in her slightly husky, lower-register-heavy voice.

From my perspective as a vocal coach, her low notes aren’t necessarily beautifully resonant in a textbook sense, which does catch my attention a bit.

However, looking at the overall completeness of the track, I think it fully brings out Kumi Koda’s charm as a singer.

It reminds you that music production isn’t about following the rulebook to the letter—that’s part of what makes it interesting.

It’s also a song I can confidently recommend as a karaoke pick for low-voiced women, so by all means, sing it and have fun.

sunflowerAdo

This is Ado’s 21st digital-only single, released in November 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for the TBS Tuesday drama “18/40: Dreams and Love If We’re Together.” Ado is a singer known for her deeply appealing low register, so I feel this is one of the best choices for women with lower voices to select at karaoke and show off their charm.

In the song, the slightly higher passages are sung in falsetto, so please practice switching registers smoothly.

Also, even in the powerful chorus sections, be careful not to let your singing become rough or harsh.

AldebaranAI

AI – “Aldebaran” (official video)
AldebaranAI

This is a song by AI that was also used as the theme for the NHK morning drama series Come Come Everybody.

Naotaro Moriyama wrote both the lyrics and the music, and you can feel a gentle yet powerful warmth that seems to embrace everything.

The vocals showcase AI’s strengths in R&B and soul, and her husky voice makes the kindness and strength of the lyrics come across directly.

It’s a track whose powerful, far-reaching delivery gives strength to those who listen.

Zankyo SankaAimer

Aimer「Zankyosanka」MUSIC VIDEO(Demon Slayer:Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc Theme Song)
Zankyo SankaAimer

This is Aimer’s 20th single, released on January 12, 2022.

It was selected as the opening theme for the TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Entertainment District Arc.

It’s a fine track where you can fully enjoy Aimer’s slightly husky voice over an up-tempo, somewhat aggressive sound.

Now, the song—especially the chorus—features a vocal melody with steep rises and falls, so it may be difficult for most people to sing at karaoke if they’re simply “good at low notes.” However, the A-melody sections should give low-voiced female singers a chance to shine.

Try to sing throughout without losing your sense of power!
