A must-see for low-voiced women! Popular songs that are easy to sing at karaoke

These days, many songs for both women and men are in higher keys, so there are probably many women with lower voices who feel, “I can’t find songs I can sing because my voice is low,” or “I’m looking for lower-key songs for karaoke.” Forcing yourself to sing songs that don’t suit your natural voice can hurt your throat, and it can be stressful when you can’t sing the way you want.

But don’t worry! There are plenty of songs that sound captivating even with a low voice.

In this article, we’ll introduce lots of songs that women with lower ranges can sing comfortably and confidently.

Female artists (41–50)

HEROAmuro Namie

Hero – Namie Amuro (Full)
HEROAmuro Namie

Released in July 2016 as Namie Amuro’s 45th single, the “Heisei-era songstress” was chosen as the theme song for NHK’s broadcasts of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and Paralympics.

Although Amuro is semi-deified due to her astonishing sales record, in terms of pure vocal ability she hasn’t exactly reached the realm of a “hardcore vocalist,” so there’s no need to be intimidated when singing this song at karaoke.

The key is how well you can recreate the clever contrast: a somewhat muffled tone in the verses (A and B sections) that sit mostly in the low-to-mid range, switching in the chorus to a bright, open vocal quality.

The chorus isn’t especially high in pitch, so even those not confident with high notes should manage as long as they focus on keeping a bright tone.

Prioritize conveying a sense of openness in the chorus as you sing.

Women artists (51–60)

Sakura Fujiwara is a female singer-songwriter popular for her country-inspired musical style.

Active since the 2010s, she has produced several hit numbers.

Among her songs, the one especially recommended for women with lower voices is Haru no Uta (Spring Song).

It’s frequently used on platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts, so many people may find it familiar.

The chorus has a calm feel, and the verses through the pre-chorus sit mostly in the low to low-mid range, making it very easy to sing for women with lower voices.

A streaming-only single by Aimyon released in February 2020.

Aimyon is also a singer whose charm lies in her low voice, so it’s highly recommended for women with lower ranges to pick for karaoke.

“Sayonara no Kyou ni” is mid-tempo and very easy to sing, so even those who feel a bit insecure about singing will probably be able to handle it fairly smoothly.

That said, if you just breeze through it, there’s a risk the song will sound very flat, so you could say it’s a piece where expressiveness matters more than vocal range.

Especially in the chorus, I think it’s good to focus on singing powerfully.

Be mindful of how you build excitement over the course of the song, and try singing with that in mind beforehand.

AldebaranAI

AI – “Aldebaran” (official video)
AldebaranAI

AI’s digital-only single was released on November 1, 2021, as the theme song for the NHK morning drama series “Come Come Everybody.” It’s a beautiful ballad that lets you fully enjoy AI’s husky, powerful vocals.

The way she uses mixed voice in the B melody can serve as a great reference for vocal expression.

Even in the strong, soaring chorus, her singing never turns rough, showcasing AI’s high level of vocal skill and expressive ability.

It may be quite difficult to sing it just like she does simply because you have a low voice or are good at low notes; however, being strong in the lower register is definitely an advantage when performing this song.

Give it a try!

Whimsical Romanticikimonogakari

Capricious Romantic – Ikimonogakari [A Cappella]

Kimagure Romantic is Ikimono-gakari’s 12th single, released in 2008.

It was used as the theme song for the Fuji TV drama Celeb to Binbo Taro.

Ikimono-gakari is known for their very clear, transparent vocals, which gives the impression of high keys, but I think this song can be sung even by women with lower voices!

The Theory of HappinessShiina Ringo

Here is Shiina Ringo’s debut single, released in 1998.

It’s a song she wrote about a man she was dating when she lived in Fukuoka, and it forms a set of three tracks along with “Suberidai” and “Toki ga Bōsō Suru.” While the key may need to be lowered, the range isn’t very wide, so it’s one of those classic songs that could very well be sung by lower-voiced women.

It’s Morning Musume’s ‘Love Revolution 21.’ Released in 2000 when Morning Musume was hugely popular, it became a massive hit, even selling over a million copies! It’s a dance number that will lift your spirits.

Try consciously switching your vocal style between the cool, powerful parts and the lively, bursting-with-energy parts.

Plus, if you divide the parts among a large group and sing together, it’s sure to hype everyone up!
