MagicMrs. GREEN APPLE

This is a digital-only single by Mrs.
GREEN APPLE, released in June 2023.
It was chosen as the Coca-Cola summer campaign song.
Vocalist Motoki Omori is well known for his high tones, and in this track he showcases superb control: a gentle, soft mixed voice in the A sections and a powerful mixed voice in the chorus, expressing the song’s refreshing vibe.
From a chest-leaning, strong mixed voice to a falsetto-leaning, soft mixed voice, it’s like a showcase of mixed voice techniques.
Be sure to listen closely and use it as a reference.
KanadeSukima Suichi

It’s Sukima Switch’s second single, released in March 2004.
Sukima Switch is an excellent choice if you want to enjoy male vocals that make effective use of mixed voice.
The overall range used in the song doesn’t go that high, but if you try to sing the whole piece with the mixed-voice technique of “placing the sound in the nasal cavity,” you should be able to deliver a soft tone close to the feel of the original.
Please give it a try if you like.
After the final key change, you’ll also need a stronger, chest-leaning mixed voice, but be careful not to tighten your throat as much as possible.
Ghost of the SeaYonezu Kenshi

Kenshi Yonezu’s masterpiece “Umi no Yuurei,” released in June 2019, stands out among his songs for its distinctly Japanese flavor and ethereal melody.
The A and B sections are relatively calm, and the moment the chorus hits, the pitch movement suddenly becomes dramatic—making the song deceptively challenging even in its simplicity.
While the track calls for mixed voice, falsetto also appears very frequently, so rather than strictly matching the original, it’s better to switch between falsetto and mixed voice within your own comfortable range.
Promise of SunflowersHata Motohiro

Hata Motohiro’s 17th single, released in August 2014.
This song makes extensive use of a powerful, chest-leaning mixed voice in the chorus and elsewhere, so it’s relatively difficult to sing.
High notes with an open throat are essential, and it’s an ideal piece for studying how to use mixed voice to sing those notes comfortably and smoothly.
There are also many sections that use falsetto, so practice switching between registers smoothly.
SUNHoshino Gen

Gen Hoshino’s 8th single, released in May 2015.
When you search for examples of singing with a mixed voice, you tend to find a lot of R&B-style songs, which often leads to more mid-tempo ballads.
In contrast, I think this song is also great for practicing a lively sense of rhythm.
In terms of range, it’s neither too high nor too low, making it an ideal piece for practicing mixed voice technique without strain.
Starlight ParadeSEKAI NO OWARI

SEKAI NO OWARI’s second major-label single, released in November 2011.
Try singing with plenty of breath mixed into your voice to soften the attack.
If you tighten your throat and squeeze the breath, it will sound strained, so do your best to keep your throat as open as possible and support your upper body firmly with your abdominal muscles while you sing.
I think it’s a great way to practice a good mixed voice!
Kanata HarukaRADWIMPS

This is RADWIMPS’ 12th digital-only single, released in October 2022.
It was created for director Makoto Shinkai’s film “Suzume.” It’s a slow ballad that makes highly effective use of string arrangements, and it lets you fully enjoy vocalist Yojiro Noda’s gentle yet powerful singing, which skillfully employs his soft mixed voice.
I also think it’s extremely useful as a practice piece for developing mixed voice.
Try practicing by opening the back of your throat as much as possible, and aim to send the sound from your mouth toward both nostrils.
It should definitely help you master mixed voice.
