[For Seniors] March-Themed Event Activities

In this article, we introduce March events and recreational activities for seniors!

March is full of occasions like Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day) and White Day.

Elderly care facilities such as day services often hold a variety of events every month.

Of course, classic recreational activities are fun, but these ideas are also recommended when you want to change things up a bit and try something different.

Many of them can be enjoyed at home as well, so please feel free to incorporate them.

How about making ohagi with a rice cooker? It’s an easy way to enjoy that nostalgic, traditional flavor, so it’s great for seniors, too.

Just add the ingredients and cook—so simple to make.

You can also enjoy it with your favorite flavors like chunky sweet red bean paste or kinako, which is part of the charm.

It’s lovely to gather and make it together while reminiscing about the old days.

Sharing freshly made ohagi and chatting around the table makes for a truly special time.

It sounds like the perfect activity for creating warm, heartwarming memories.

Making sweets for White Day

Do you know this kind of sweet you can make with almost just one ingredient? ♡ #EasyRecipe #EasySnacks #Baking #Cooking #ValentinesRecipe
Making sweets for White Day

March 14 is White Day.

It’s the day to return the favor for the chocolates you received on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Why not have everyone enjoy making sweets together? When it comes to White Day, white chocolate and marshmallows are classics, but it’s also nice to make your favorite desserts, enjoy the process, and then eat what everyone made together.

It could be fun for the staff to have a dessert-making showdown and let the participants watch to liven up the atmosphere.

Having everyone vote for the tastiest treat would probably be exciting too!

Simple White Day wrapping

Here’s an introduction to “Simple White Day Wrapping,” perfect for White Day return gifts.

You can place candies, chocolates, and other treats inside a cut paper cup.

It’s a project we especially recommend for older adults who received chocolates from family, and it’s great for them to make.

Of course, you can also make it not just for White Day, but for handing out sweets to grandchildren and others.

Craft activities stimulate the brain and help with activation by using the fingertips.

While care is needed when using scissors, please provide support according to the older adult’s condition.

The steps are simple, so many older adults can enjoy making this craft.

[For Seniors] March-Themed Event Recreation (61–70)

movie watching

It seems that March 21 is Color Film Day! On this day in 1951, Japan’s first domestically produced color film, Carmen Comes Home, was released.

While it’s a little-known anniversary, this could be a good opportunity to incorporate movie watching into day services and other care facilities.

Conversations like “I didn’t know there was a day for that!” are sure to liven things up.

Classic Showa-era films familiar to seniors are great, but since some people may find it difficult to sit for long periods, we also recommend screening a selection of short pieces, such as Japanese folk tales.

In conclusion

We introduced recreational activities related to March events.

March is the season when you can start to feel spring and get excited, isn’t it? These activities are perfect not only for senior facilities like day-service centers but also for enjoying at home, so please give them a try with everyone.
