“A Wonderful Tomorrow” is Seiko Matsuda’s 57th single, released in 2002.

The 57th single—impressive! It really shows her long career.

As the theme song for Fuji TV’s “Mezamashi TV,” it brightened up mornings in living rooms across Japan.

This is an autumn classic by Seiko Matsuda, an artist whose idol sensibilities shine while also revealing her side as a bona fide rhythm-and-blues singer with releases overseas.

Its sophisticated mood creates a world that perfectly suits and uplifts high school students as well.

Seiko Matsuda, a legend of Japan’s idol pop scene, has enjoyed a long career backed by tremendous accomplishments and popularity.

During the recent boom in Showa-era pop revivals, the excellence of her songs has been rediscovered.

Among her many classics, “Blue Coral Reef” stands out with a striking sense of freshness.

NewJeans’ Hanni, a member of the girl group immensely popular in both Japan and Korea, covered this song at their first Tokyo Dome concert! The response thrilled not only NewJeans fans but many others as well.

Thanks in part to that impact, the original track has been rapidly gaining listeners in Korea.

Combined with the growing attention to city pop—also highly regarded in Korea—Seiko’s own popularity seems poised to cross national borders.

A poignant love song by Seiko Matsuda, released in 1996.

The lyrics, which sing of a lost romance, vividly depict the loneliness of waking up in the middle of the night and the memories shared with a former lover.

Seiko Matsuda’s soaring vocals and melodious sound further amplify the bittersweet emotion.

The song was also used as the later opening theme for the TV Asahi anime Kaitou Saint Tail.

With many relatable lines, it has strong support from women.

It’s a great pick for reunions or year-end parties—one that everyone of the same generation can sing together and get excited about.

In a word, it’s truly wonderful.

And Seiko-chan wrote the lyrics herself—perfect.

I was surprised by how mature and very sexy the cover art for this recording is.

Because her face is so small, everything looks fabulous.

She’s always wearing cute dresses and is a real idol.

This song by Seiko-chan is full of true musicality, and it’s one of my absolute favorites.

Sunflower HillMatsuda Seiko

Seiko Matsuda’s song “Himawari no Oka” enjoys enduring popularity among fans.

The cute yet heartrending lyrics, which only she could deliver, strike a chord.

Reflecting on the days and feelings she shared with the boyfriend she parted from, the song expresses her resolve to “look up at the sky like a sunflower and keep moving forward” from now on.
