May: Craft Ideas That Excite 4-Year-Olds!
May is the time when the new school year settles down a bit and the weather is perfect for enjoyable outdoor activities.
Four-year-olds are surely excited about the new season, too.
May also includes Children’s Day and Mother’s Day, making it a great time to deepen learning about traditional events.
In this article, we’ll introduce May craft ideas you’ll want to enjoy with four-year-olds.
Four-year-olds are increasingly energetic.
Let’s incorporate ideas that not only involve making crafts, but also add twists to the process and allow children to play with what they create.
Because items made by children are treated as works of art, we use the term “制作 (seisaku),” meaning “creation/work,” rather than “製作,” in the text.

Prepare shaving foam, liquid laundry glue, paint, plastic cups, plastic spoons, and drawing paper.
Sketch your picture on the paper beforehand.
In a plastic cup, combine shaving foam and liquid glue in a 1:1 ratio and mix.
Add paint to color it, then use a plastic spoon to place the foamy paint onto your sketched drawing.
When it dries, you’ll have a cute, puffy spring picture! Once dry, you can touch it, so enjoy the fun texture—give this charming and magical craft a try!
Spring paintings made from natural materials
@hoikushisatomi Capture spring: Try preserving flowers and plants as a piece while they’re still beautiful! Note: They’ll last on display for about 2–3 weeks. If you want them to last longer, press the flowers first and then create your piece!work#LifeWithKids#NurseryTeacherDailyLifeCute#crafts#diyNursery teacher / Childcare workerTranslation

Let’s make one using a candy container lid and liquid glue! Here’s an idea for a sparkling sun catcher.
Sun catchers are decorative items that reflect or refract sunlight to create beautiful patterns of light.
They’re often made with crystal glass or mineral parts, but this time we’ll use liquid glue.
What you’ll need: a candy container lid, liquid glue, your favorite beads, water-based color pens, and string.
You can already picture the excited faces of kids as they make them, right?

Stylish and perfect as a gift! Let me share an idea for a picture frame that looks like stained glass.
In May, we also have Mother’s Day, right? Many of you might be wondering what to make for it.
Why not try creating a stained-glass-style photo frame that looks even more beautiful when light shines through it? You’ll need toilet paper rolls, laminating film, origami paper, masking tape, double-sided tape, stickers, construction paper, and scissors.
It’s great because you can display it at home!
sensory koinobori

Fun to make for both kids and adults! Here’s a recommended carp streamer (koinobori) craft.
First, put transparent origami or any parts you like into a clear plastic bag.
Next, pour in liquid laundry starch (or glue) and seal the opening with clear tape.
Roll it up into a tube and tape both sides to secure.
Attach a koinobori frame with the center cut out onto the plastic using tape.
Add double-sided tape around the edge, then stick another sheet on top to seal it.
Finally, add the eyes and it’s done! Using stickers or illustrations of your favorite characters inside also looks cute.
Let’s look for spring! Making a magnifying glass

We’ll show you how to make a magnifying glass that’s perfect for spring walks and bug hunts.
Prepare two pieces of thick paper with circular cut-outs, construction paper, clear cellophane, tape, and colored pens.
Fold a rectangular piece of construction paper to add strength and form the handle of the magnifying glass.
Attach the handle firmly to the bottom of one of the circular cut-outs so it won’t come off.
Place the cellophane over the cut-out opening and trim any excess with scissors.
Finally, attach the second circular cut-out on top to finish the magnifying glass.
Draw with colored pens to create your own original design.
Broad beans you make by sticking (pieces) on

Broad beans, said to be in season from April to June, are perfect for spring crafts.
This time, we’ll introduce a craft that incorporates these beans.
Pre-cut the pod and bean shapes from construction paper.
For children who are comfortable using scissors, it’s also recommended that they try cutting them themselves.
Glue the pod and beans onto a base sheet of construction paper, draw faces on the beans, and it’s done.
The steps are very simple, so even young children can enjoy it.
The vivid green of the broad beans is sure to energize the kids even more.
Give it a try!
