[Elementary School] Indoor Games and Recreational Activities Recommended for Upper Primary Grades

There are lots of elementary school children who love the internet and online games, right?

Of course, they can build relationships and develop various skills through them, but many parents and educators probably feel, “I’d like them to play something other than games a bit more.”

Kids can learn a lot from new experiences, so we hope they’ll try a variety of activities.

In this article, we’ll introduce fun games and recreational activities suited for upper elementary grades!

All of them can be played indoors, so they’re perfect for days when you can’t go outside!

three-legged relay

three-legged relay

Let’s try enjoying a relay using three-legged races! Pair up in teams of two, tie the inside legs together with a string, and step in sync.

Walking is one thing, but running makes it a bit tricky—coordinating your breathing and calling out together as you run is the key.

If you have a lot of people, you can try a three-person, four-legged relay too.

Just keep in mind the difficulty goes up.

Foot rock-paper-scissors

Jumping, hopping, etc. (5): Foot Rock-Paper-Scissors (game)
Foot rock-paper-scissors

Let’s play rock-paper-scissors with our feet.

For paper, spread your arms and legs wide like a star shape; for scissors, step one foot forward and one back to open vertically; for rock, keep your arms and legs tightly closed.

The winner gets to move forward.

If you win with rock, say “Glico”; with paper, “Pineapple”; with scissors, “Chocolate,” and move forward by the number of letters.

The first person to reach the goal wins.

Bomb Game

Bomb Game

The bomb game is very easy to understand and is similar to musical chairs.

Everyone sits in a circle and passes a ball, which represents a bomb, to the person next to them.

Music plays while you pass the ball, and when the music stops, the person holding the ball loses.

You can enjoy the thrilling tension of trying not to be the one holding the ball.

It’s simple, so give it a try!

In conclusion

We introduced indoor games and recreation activities recommended for lower- to middle-grade elementary school children.

What did you think? By the time kids reach the middle grades of elementary school, they start to seem more grown-up, and it can be harder to play together.

We’ve gathered a variety of games that seem fun for school or at home, so please give them a try.
