[Mompou’s Piano Pieces] Introducing soothing masterpieces by a shy composer

Federico Mompou was born in 1893 to a Catalan father and a French mother.

Although he received his first piano lessons from his aunt and gave his public debut at the age of fifteen, his extremely shy nature led him to abandon a career as a performer and devote his life to composition.

Buffeted by the upheavals of World War I, he nevertheless continued to compose for many years, right up until his death at the age of 94.

In this article, we will focus on Mompou’s piano solo works, which occupy an important place among his compositions, and introduce them along with background information and performance videos.
