Spring Music Festival in Eastern Japan [2026]

The Hakodate Goryokaku Festival, held at Goryokaku Park in Hakodate, is a traditional celebration that has continued since 1970 (Showa 45) with the aim of passing down to future generations the history connected to Goryokaku, the stage of the Boshin War. While preserving events such as the Toshizo Hijikata Contest and the Restoration Parade, from the 56th festival onward a special stage has been set up inside the fort, showcasing a wide array of performances including sword-fighting theater, wind ensemble music, singing, and dance. The 57th festival will be held over two days, May 16 and 17, 2026.

Hashimoto Spring Fest is an outdoor spring music festival held in Hashimoto, Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Officially billed as “a spring tradition of the Hashimoto shopping district,” it is a one-day celebration that brings together musicians of various generations who live in Sagamihara. In addition to dance, rap, and band performances, there will be vendor booths from local member shops. An admission-free outdoor music festival held at Shimin no Mori Park in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, under the theme “Music Festival in Isesaki.” Multiple areas are set up, including a main stage on the lawn and a special acoustic zone, bringing together a diverse lineup of artists. The event also features performances of Yagibushi, a traditional local performing art, as well as hands-on programs enjoyable for all ages, coloring Isesaki in the fresh-green season with sound and encounters. KAMANDO Ichiba is a community-based event under the banner “Connect and Expand! Community Market.” Set in the Yuigahama area of Kamakura Seaside Park, it unfolds three spaces within the park: a “market” where goods circulate, a “plaza” where feelings connect, and a “well-side” where information is exchanged. Divided into areas for “selling,” “mingling,” and “eating,” visitors can enjoy a wide range of interactions, including sales of local farm produce, workshops, and live performances of singing and dance. The 28th edition is scheduled for May 2026.

This is a community-focused rock music festival held in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture. The organizers aim for it to become a flagship event of “Kasukabe, the City of Music,” and it is primarily run by the local executive committee and support members. Held at the Residential Park SHOWA within Showa General Park, the event features live performances by multiple bands, kids’ dance showcases, and a lineup of kitchen cars (food trucks) and tent vendors, allowing visitors to enjoy music while sampling food as they stroll. In 2026, it will take place on May 16.

This is one of the largest Okinawan culture festivals in the Tokyo metropolitan area, held at the Yoyogi Park Event Plaza in Tokyo. Under the theme “REAL OKINAWA,” visitors can fully experience the charms of Okinawa—from the sounds of the sanshin and music where tradition meets street culture, to island cuisine and crafts infused with the creators’ passion. Multiple stages, including the MATSURI STAGE and CHURA STAGE, showcase music and traditional performing arts, and the event has welcomed over 250,000 visitors in total. In 2026, marking its 10th anniversary, it will be held over two days in May.

Set against the backdrop of Kasai Rinkai Park’s Shiokaze Plaza, this free-admission event features a variety of live performances—such as dance and music—during the day, and outdoor film screenings after sunset. Its hallmark is the relaxed time you can spend in a space surrounded by the lush greenery of the expansive park. For the May 16, 2026 edition, the nighttime screening is scheduled to be the animated film “FLY!”, and a talk show by comedians Nagano and Sankyu Kurata is also planned.
