A new hip-hop festival—the largest of its kind in Japan to energize pop culture—is being launched. While there are many genre-focused festivals for rock and EDM, POP YOURS centers on hip-hop of the 2020s. DEAD POP FESTiVAL, which has been held since 2010 under the slogan “Break the Wall,” has firmly established itself as an outdoor event and joined the ranks of summer open-air festivals. The festival is hosted by the hugely popular reggae-punk band SiM. Because SiM is always taking on new challenges, the event has featured initiatives unlike anything seen before. This year as well, their fresh ideas will no doubt make it an incredibly fun experience.

WALK INN FES! is a hometown festival of music and people in Kagoshima that has been held since 2014 under the motto, “We create our town ourselves.” Multiple local shops set up booths and local artists perform, with a focus on running the event through local power. Going forward, they aim to firmly establish the event and solidify a style that includes inviting guest artists from outside the prefecture.
