Musical chairs with newspapers

How about a game of musical chairs using newspapers instead of chairs? Unlike the usual musical chairs, the “chairs” move.

Each player holds a sheet of newspaper that becomes their chair and spreads it out when the music stops, so you can’t fix your target in advance—making it a real test of quick reflexes.

Give each child a sheet of newspaper and, at the cue of “1, 2, 3,” have them tear it into pieces.

Once it’s torn into small bits, pretend they’re snow and have fun letting it fall from above to the tune of the children’s song “Yuki” (Snow).

After the eurhythmics session, pack the used newspaper pieces into a clear bag to make a snowman.

It’s a winter-themed idea from start to finish, so please enjoy it with the children.

Three newspaper games

Let’s have fun playing with familiar things ♪ Newspaper play
Three newspaper games

Here are three super easy games you can make with newspaper! First, fold a sheet of newspaper into quarters.

Punch a hole in the middle of the fold, then pull out toys or various objects from the hole and play a guessing game! Second, roll a sheet of newspaper into a long thin tube and tape the end.

Balance it on your palm and play a balancing game! Because the newspaper is soft, it’s trickier than it looks.

Lastly, take some PE tape (the kind used for pom-poms) and wrap/roll the newspaper around it in four layers.

When you pull the exposed PE tape and move it, it slithers like a snake! Surprise your friends!

Building a secret base

A play idea that will get kids’ hearts racing with excitement! Here are some ideas for building a secret hideout.

Just hearing the words “secret base” makes both kids and adults excited, doesn’t it? This time, let’s make one using plastic bags and newspapers.

Use clear tape to attach large plastic bags and newspapers together to build your base.

If you blow air in through the entrance with a fan or blower, the base will gently inflate and feel nice and spacious! Napping inside or playing with balloons sounds fun, too.

It’s a unique idea that’s perfect for summer!
