Nostalgic toys that were popular in our childhood (41–50)
Hyper Yo-Yo

Let me introduce Hyper Yo-Yo, which became a huge craze in 1997.
Despite its simple construction, the yo-yo is a toy with surprising depth, and it has gone through revival booms many times.
Among them, the boom in the late ’90s succeeded in giving the yo-yo—once only a children’s toy—a sense of sportiness and fashion.
People across a wide range of ages came to feel that yo-yos were cool and stylish.
Kinnikuman eraser

The toys nicknamed “Kinkeshi” were so wildly popular that there are still avid collectors today.
Along with the anime’s huge success, these Kinkeshi figures became incredibly popular too! Many of you probably collected a lot of them back then.
And who knows—some of you might still have a stash of Kinkeshi sleeping in a closet at your parents’ house.
Endless Bubble Wrap

Who was the first person to call polyethylene cushioning “puchi-puchi,” I wonder? It’s such a simple yet spot-on name! The toy version, “Infinite Puchi-Puchi,” was also explosively popular.
There was even a keychain type—my friend had one on their bag.
I remember popping it nonstop on my way to school and even during class… Looking back, was that fashionable? It seems there’s bubble wrap sold specifically for popping, and I’ve heard that among the bubble wrap made by Kawakami Sangyo, one out of every 10,000 bubbles is heart-shaped.
In any case, it’s a nostalgic item.
Zoids

Surprisingly, the Zoids series actually began in 1982 and has a long history, but didn’t it really catch on around the year 2000? In addition to wind-up and motorized model kits, there was also an anime series, and I think many people built lots of them.
Even when there were gaps between installments, new anime series were aired, and it remains popular to this day!
Bikkuriman sticker

Do you remember the Bikkuriman stickers that were all the rage in the mid-80s? The bonus stickers that came with Lotte’s chocolate wafer snack “Bikkuriman Choco” became hugely popular and even got turned into an anime.
Other companies jumped on the bandwagon with products like the chocolate wafer “Dokidoki Gakuen,” and there were even knockoffs like “Rotchi.” There were so many piggyback products back then that would be unthinkable today.
You wanted a hologram sticker, but you’d usually end up with a demon sticker, right?
In conclusion
We introduced plenty of nostalgic toys—did you spot any that used to be your favorite? Even if nothing came to mind at first, I bet there were lots that made you think, “Yes, that one!” once you saw them.
Some of these toys now have a premium and are traded for high prices, so if any caught your interest, try looking them up!
