Fun outdoor recreation games that get everyone excited (21–30)
Beetle Battle

When it comes to quintessential beetles, rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles come to mind.
There are many different species of both.
As a child, I used to get up early and go out to catch rhinoceros beetles while it was still dark.
Male beetles use their horns skillfully to fight over feeding spots and territory.
Try pitting your favorite rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles against each other!
Adults going all out at the park!

Games we used to play as kids can be surprisingly fun even after we grow up.
So why not enjoy some outdoor games for the first time in a while? Here we introduce two types of tag games: “Kotorokotoro” and “Hyotan Oni.” In Kotorokotoro, players are divided into one chaser (oni) and the children.
The children line up, placing their hands on the shoulders of the person in front.
The oni faces the line, and wins if they can tag the child at the very end.
In Hyotan Oni, you draw a gourd-shaped safe zone on the ground, and the children run around inside it.
The oni reaches in from outside the gourd, and if they manage to tag someone, they swap roles with that person.
Number guessing game

Here’s a number-guessing game idea that’s fun for both adults and kids.
It’s simple yet surprisingly deep.
First, players form a circle.
One person says any number they like, and everyone chooses to either sit or stand.
If the spoken number matches the number of people standing, that person wins.
Because there’s a psychological element, it’s a great way for all ages to get excited together.
You can also tweak it so that matching the number means you lose.
Try adjusting the rules to suit the number of players.
Fly! Don’t Fly Game

The “Jump or Don’t Jump” game is an easy group activity that gets more exciting with more players.
Participants line up side by side in a single row.
The leader gives commands using one of the phrases: “tobe” (jump), “jump,” or “tobuna” (don’t jump).
When participants hear the command, they should take one step forward by jumping.
If they step forward on the wrong word, they must return to the starting line and begin again.
The first person to reach the goal wins.
It can be even more fun if the leader mixes in tricky phrases to try to fool the players.
Fun music play in nature

Let’s move our bodies together and enjoy playful music activities in nature while taking in the scenery and sounds around us.
Placing ourselves in nature and listening to the wind and the sounds of insects stimulates the five senses and helps refresh the mind and body.
As we sing, let’s wave colorful scarves and try moving them while imagining what the wind might sound like.
It’s also fun to sway the scarves with varying strengths, like a gentle breeze or a strong gust.
One of the charms of this play is being able to move freely and express yourself while sensing a variety of sounds—like leaves rustling and water flowing.
Mölkky

I also recommend Mölkky, which is fun for its strategic play.
Mölkky is a sport that originated in Finland.
The basic rule is to throw a wooden baton at numbered pins, and the first to reach a total of 50 points from the numbers on the pins they knock down wins.
The fun part is having to think strategically about which pins to topple.
It’s sure to be exciting if you split into teams with family or friends.
By the way, if you’re playing on the beach, slightly burying the pins makes them easier to stand up.
Camp Bingo
When it comes to classic party and event games, bingo is a staple, and it could be a hit at a camping trip as well.
You can buy bingo cards at 100-yen shops, so using store-bought ones is fine, or you can enjoy making them by hand with your kids! Adding camping-themed illustrations will boost the mood even more.
It’s bingo when you complete a line—vertical, horizontal, or diagonal! To get everyone even more excited, consider preparing some lavish prizes, one of the highlights of any bingo game.
Red Light, Green Light!

The ultimate high-tension game that brings out your inner child: “Daruma-san ga Koronda!” The rules are simple: while the tagger says “Daruma-san ga koronda” and turns around, the other players quietly move forward.
If you’re caught moving, you’re out! It’s a classic children’s game, but when adults play, things heat up fast.
A battle of stillness and motion—a psychological showdown.
It’s perfect for company recreation, too.
Sprinting in suits, and that unexpected colleague is surprisingly agile…? With nonstop laughter and surprises, this fresh take on a “stop-and-go” game will bring your team closer together.
Outdoor activities: fun games everyone can play together!

This is a game called “Catch.” Choose one person to be the leader, and have the other participants form a circle.
Hold out your right hand with the palm facing up toward the person on your right, and place your left index finger on the palm of the person to your left.
When the leader says “Catch,” quickly close your right hand, and with your left hand, try to pull your index finger away so it doesn’t get caught.
The leader should vary the timing by stretching out “Ca, ca, caaaatch…” or throw in feints by saying something like “Cat!” instead.
It’s a simple game that helps break the ice and get everyone excited, even with people you’re meeting for the first time.
9-square tag

Nine-Square Tag is a quirky twist on tag played in an area divided into nine squares.
At a cue, everyone on the grid moves one square at the same time.
If the chaser (“it”) lands in the same square as someone else, that person is out.
If the chaser can’t catch anyone within ten turns, they lose.
It’s perfect for camps or indoor gatherings because it works even in small spaces.
Kids and adults can enjoy it, and although simple, it engages both mind and body—great as a lively brain workout.
Give it a try!
