Animal Light

Let's play with light and shadow♪ Animal Light
Animal Light

Here’s a simple animal light idea using a paper cup and plastic wrap.

It’s easy to make: First, poke a hole in the center of the bottom of the paper cup, then cut eight evenly spaced slits radiating out from the hole.

Next, stretch plastic wrap tightly over the rim of the cup and secure it with a rubber band.

Finally, draw your favorite animal on the plastic wrap, and you’re done.

Insert a flashlight into the slits at the bottom, turn it on facing a wall, and the animal drawing will appear large on the wall.

Not only black markers but also colored markers show up beautifully, so try using various colors.

[Summer Vacation Craft] Authentic! How to Make a Cool Guitar (Toilet Paper Rolls, Rubber Bands, Paper Cups) [Handmade Instrument, Playable Toy, Playable Craft] Upcycled Fun • Lower and Middle Elementary Grades • Independent Study
Guitar

A cool, realistic guitar you can make from everyday materials like paper cups and toilet paper rolls! It’s a fun instrument craft that even lower elementary school kids can enjoy, so it’s perfect for a summer vacation project.

Combine a paper cup and a cardboard tube to build the guitar’s base, then hook rubber bands into slits to make the strings.

If you have time, try adding a mechanism that changes the guitar’s sound or make a pick! Use patterned paper cups or decorate it however you like, and you’ll have a one-of-a-kind, special guitar.

basket

basket

For children who like papercraft, making a basket using paper cups is recommended.

First, prepare white and brown paper cups.

After cutting slits into each one, weave them together to form the shape of a basket.

It’s a delicate process, but the result is a finely crafted piece.

Using red or blue instead of brown can create a more playful, pop impression.

By the way, the finished basket is perfect for holding small items or displaying artificial flowers.

Kendama

Kendama

I never imagined you could make a kendama with paper cups, but you can! Crumple some scrap paper into a ball and attach a string to make the ball part of the kendama.

Fix the other end of the string to the bottom of a paper cup, then sandwich the string by placing two paper cups bottom to bottom.

Punch four holes in the cups and thread chopsticks through them, and you’re done! The chopstick section is the center spike of the kendama, and the paper cups serve as the two side cups.

helicopter

[Recommended for childcare workers] Kids will be thrilled! A helicopter made with paper cups!
helicopter

We’re introducing a paper-cup helicopter activity for elementary school kids! The propeller spins around and looks really cool, so it’s especially recommended for boys.

Combine paper cups to make the helicopter body, and use a bamboo skewer and rubber bands to build the propeller mechanism.

Because there are lots of detailed steps—like making holes and wrapping wire—parents should supervise closely while enjoying the project together.

Craft projects are a great way to nurture children’s creativity, so we hope this idea will be helpful even for kids who feel they’re not good at crafts or can’t think of ideas, as well as for busy parents!
