These might be common images associated with the music genre known as punk rock.
Of course, “punk” is a broad term—there are many subgenres like hardcore punk, ska punk, pop punk, and post-punk—and it’s difficult to cover the entire history.
In this article, however, we introduce recommended classic tracks with a focus on early punk rock.

The members are known for being Japanophiles, having covered many Japanese songs, and they even have tracks sung in Japanese.

Included on the album “Social Distortion.” A five-piece band from California.
Vocalist Mike Ness is admired as an older-brother figure by fans and fellow musicians in the West Coast scene.
Their music is characterized by blending West Coast hardcore sounds with country and blues.
PeachesThe Stranglers

A song released in 1977 by a band with the formidable name “The Executioners.” If you listen closely, the rhythm is reggae.
The setting seems to be a summer beach, but it’s not refreshing at all.
Still, the sound has a kind of addictive quality, and it has become one of The Stranglers’ signature tracks.
Kiss Me DeadlyGeneration X

A track from the 1981 self-titled album.
It features a sound that blends punk edge with tenderness.
Formed in London in 1976, Generation X achieved idol-like popularity thanks to the good looks of all its members.
The vocalist, Billy Idol, later moved to the United States and became a star.
If the Kids Are UnitedSHAM 69

A 1978 song that feels like a football chant for Britain’s national sport, soccer.
The chorus is perfect for getting a big crowd fired up—you can’t help but find yourself singing along.
It’s said to be a piece that expresses a desire to “unite! (please stop fighting)” aimed at both punks and skinheads, who were at odds at the time.

Stiff Little Fingers is a band from Northern Ireland.
They took their name directly from the Vibrators’ song “Stiff Little Fingers.” This work is one of their signature pieces—a punk track with both weight and speed.
The raw, gritty vocals and the sudden, stumbling rhythms that pop up mid-song leave a strong impression.
