Kanazawa no Ame, a famous song by Miyuki Kawanaka released in 2006, is well known to many, especially since it won the Gold Award at the 49th Japan Record Awards in 2007.
There is also a duet version featuring former NHK announcer Ryuji Miyamoto.
Because the arrangement assigns all the high parts to the female vocalist, it’s an easy duet for men with lower voices to sing.
However, the male part includes some slightly challenging kobushi (ornamental vocal turns), so be mindful of that.

While Miyuki Kawanaka’s alluring enka is highly acclaimed, her “men’s songs” are also praised.
Among the many men’s songs she has released, the one I especially recommend is Otoko Ja Nai Ka (“Aren’t You a Man”).
As the bold title suggests, this piece is characterized by a very powerful vocal delivery.
Despite its strength, it doesn’t require the delicate, intricate kobushi (melismatic turns), so you can sing it boldly.
If you want to sound more polished, try raising the key to the point where your voice slightly flips when you execute the kobushi.

This is a song released by Miyuki Kawanaka in 2006, set in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and considered one of the local songs of the area.
It tells a love story between a woman living in Kanazawa and a man who moved there from Tokyo.
The lyrics feature the Sai River and Asano River that flow through Kanazawa, the teahouse districts, and the Kaga dialect known as “Kaga-namari.” It was released as one of the tracks commemorating her 30th anniversary.
Anemone flaccida (nirinsō; literally “two-flowered anemone”)Gen Tetsuya/Kawanaka Miyuki29rank/position

This duet is a kayōkyoku song that falls under so-called enka, with a cool, old-school vibe.
Compared to Tetsuya Gen, Miyuki Kawanaka’s voice has a stronger kobushi (ornamental vibrato), giving it a powerful, resilient feminine core.
The lyrics are perfect for a duet sung by a loving married couple, just as the title suggests.
If you’re a close, affectionate pair, why not give it a try?
