Rebecca’s famous and popular songs
Let me introduce songs by REBECCA, a four-member rock band with a female vocalist that debuted in 1984.
When you think of REBECCA, their song “Friends” is overwhelmingly famous.
Although they went on hiatus several times in the past, they reunited in 2015 and performed on NHK’s year-end Kōhaku Uta Gassen.
It’s said that bands with a female vocalist and all-male instrumentalists were rare at the time, but after REBECCA, this lineup became popular.
Now, please enjoy the music of REBECCA, a band that took their era by storm.

Rebecca’s greatest and most popular songs (21–30)
CHERRY SHUFFLEREBECCA

It’s a lively shuffle-rhythm number, just as the title suggests, included on their sixth original album “Poison,” released in 1987.
This album won the Japan Gold Disc Award in the Japanese Music Rock/Folk category.
When a Woman Loves a ManREBECCA

This song, “When a Woman Loves a Man,” is included on the 1986 album TIME.
It’s the reverse of American singer Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman,” meaning “when a woman loves a man.” From the lyrics, you can sense a secret love through which she has taken a step up the staircase to adulthood.
Vellam Boat ClubREBECCA

This was their debut single, released in 1984.
They drew attention as a new wave band and gained popularity among their peers.
The single and album versions differ, so I highly recommend listening and comparing them.
Phantom FlightREBECCA

This “Mugen Hikou” was the B-side to REBECCA’s debut single “Wearham Boat Club,” released in 1984.
It’s from their early period when they still had a rock vibe, featuring crisp, satisfying guitar cutting and a cool overall finish.
Golden DaysREBECCA

This “Golden Days” is the B-side track to REBECCA’s second single, “Virginity,” released in 1984.
It’s also from the period when Mr.
Kogure was still a member, so you could say it blends poignancy with rock—a song that lets you feel that kind of world.
Hot SpiceREBECCA

This song is also included on the 1985 album “REBECCA IV ~Maybe tomorrow~.” It starts with guitar cutting and drums, then a funky bass joins in, making it a dance number.
Cheap HippiesREBECCA

This song, “Cheap Hippies,” is included on the album TIME, released in 1986.
It was also put out as a 12-inch single the following year.
The lyrics vividly convey a heart wavering between girlhood and adulthood, between dreams and reality.
I’m sure the words would still resonate with people around 20 years old today.
