[Easy and Surprising] Rope Magic Tricks [For Parties and Events]

Some of you may long for that cool moment when you casually and cleanly perform a magic trick in front of friends or coworkers.

I know I do.

In this article, we’re introducing lots of rope magic.

Some of the tricks have solid setups, but most can be done with just a single rope, so they’re easy to try.

It’s great for magic beginners, too—so slip a piece of rope into your bag and head out into the city!

Slip-through Ring

[Mystery] A Ring Passes Through a String [Magic Trick Reveal] #Shorts
Slip-through Ring

We’ll introduce a “penetrating ring” magic trick where, intriguingly, a ring that seems to be threaded onto a cord slips off the cord when you blow on it.

Prepare a cord and a ring.

Hold one end of the cord folded over with your thumb and index finger, and pretend to thread the ring onto the cord as you extend it.

At this point, hold the ring steady with your right thumb and middle finger.

After inserting a small part of the cord, secretly remove the cord from the ring so that the inserted portion can’t be seen, and use your left hand to pull the cord to make it look as if it’s passing through the ring.

It looks like the ring is penetrating the cord, doesn’t it? Presentation is key, so to keep the secret from being exposed, it’s best to have the audience watch from the front.

I’ll introduce a magic trick using a straw and a string, where a rope placed inside a straw doesn’t get cut even when you slice it with a cutter.

Beforehand, make a vertical slit in the middle of the straw so it can be opened.

When placing the rope inside the straw, insert the string in a way that prevents the straw from spreading open.

After setting the string and pulling it, the string will shift; the key is to offset it so that it won’t get cut when you make the slice.

Bend the straw in half and use a cutter to cut the middle section.

When you bend it, use your hand to conceal the prepped section (the secret slit) so it doesn’t spread open while cutting.

The uncut string will emerge from inside—trick successful!

♪ Magic – Ponzu

One classic rope trick in magic is where a ring appears when you tie a knot.

For example, you tie a single rope into an overhand knot and pull, and it separates into a ring-shaped cord and a short piece of rope.

Since all you need is a rope, give it a try if you’re interested.

By the way, there’s a variation where you tie the rope and the knot disappears.

Learning several of these and performing them in quick succession can be quite entertaining.

Rope Puzzle

[Revealed] Guaranteed to be a hit at year-end and New Year parties! An unsolvable rope puzzle that gets laughs
Rope Puzzle

Let me introduce a rope puzzle magic trick where the rope seems to come apart in an instant.

Prepare a slightly thick rope, hold both ends with your hands, drape the rope over your left arm from the front toward the back, and while keeping hold of the end in your left hand, pass only the middle section through with your right hand.

As you lower the loops around both arms, switch your grip on the rope; if you switch grips and let it drop at the same time, the rope will tie itself and the trick is a success.

It gets even more exciting if you have the audience check beforehand that there are no gimmicks in the rope before you start.

The cut rope was restored when the balloon burst.

This is a magic trick where ropes that were supposedly cut to the same length instantly return to their original length the moment a balloon pops.

The routine goes like this: you cut the rope in half and tie it, then attach the knot to the neck of an inflated balloon.

Next, when you pop the balloon with a safety pin or something similar, amazingly, the rope returns to its original length with no knot at all.

To pull off this trick, there are a few key details.

First, when you ‘cut’ the rope, secretly trim only a little off one end so it’s not obvious.

When you ‘tie’ the cut rope, don’t actually tie it tightly—just overlap the ends to make it look as if you’ve tied a knot.

If you handle these moves skillfully so the secret isn’t noticed, you’ll be able to perform this mysterious trick with ease!

The knot changes color

The color of the rope’s knot changes.
The knot changes color

A deceptively simple trick! Let me introduce a magic effect where only the color of the knot changes.

In this trick, when you tie a rope, just the knot appears to change color.

First, prepare a single rope and a loop made from a rope of a different color.

Thread the loop onto the rope and conceal it in your hand.

Next, pretend to tie the rope, then reveal the looped section.

This makes it look as if the knot’s color has changed.

The key is how naturally you can reveal the loop.

The tied rope comes undone easily.

The tied rope comes undone easily.

It looks like a firm square knot, but it comes undone in a flash.

This is more about tying technique than a magic trick.

It’s the way you tie a furoshiki and is called a “true knot” (ma-musubi).

With this method, even though it appears to be a sturdy knot, it can be untied easily.

If you don’t know it, it’s a puzzling sight.
