[Simple but Fun] Penalties That Hype Up Elementary School Classrooms

This time, I’d like to introduce some “penalty games” that really liven things up in elementary school!

In elementary school, kids play all sorts of games during recess and other free time.

But if you keep playing the same kinds of games with the friends you see every day, there are probably days when things don’t get very exciting, right?

That’s when you should try adding a “penalty game”!

Simply say, “If you lose, you do a penalty,” and then decide the actual penalty by drawing lots after the winner is determined—the game is sure to be more exciting than ever.

We’ve gathered penalty games that everyone can enjoy, so feel free to use them as a reference!

[Simple yet Fun] Punishment Games That Fire Up Elementary Schoolers (1–10)

[Embarrassing punishment if you lose] Who can take off a hair tie faster without using their hands?!

A hair tie—the kind of elastic band you can buy at a 100-yen shop.

You make a larger loop with it, put it over your head, and stop it under your nose.

It already looks silly at that point, like a punishment game, but from there you have to move your face—without using your hands—and use only your facial muscles to work the band down over your face and lower it to your neck.

You inevitably make funny faces, so it gets lively whether you want it to or not.

“Kabe-don” is something every girl dreams of experiencing at least once.

So you might wonder: could this really be used as a punishment game? It’s true that if it’s from someone you like, a girl’s heart will skip a beat.

But when friends do a kabe-don to each other, the closeness can be so intense that it’s actually pretty unbearable from embarrassment.

That said, while the person receiving it definitely feels punished, there’s also risk for the one doing it—so it works well as a punishment game for both people at the same time!

imitation

For people who are used to it, it’s no big deal.

But for those who don’t normally do it, “impressions” can be unbearably embarrassing.

You can imitate something you like or something that seems easy for you, or it can be fun to have others give you a prompt.

Even if you can’t do it well, you just have to do it anyway! Push through the embarrassment and give it your best shot!

doodles on the face

doodles on the face

Not makeup—fun doodles on someone’s face! It’s a common prank punishment for people who’ve fallen asleep, but of course you can enjoy it as a regular game penalty too.

Keep the aftermath in mind and use pens that wash off easily when you draw! Add a mustache, connect the eyebrows, write something on their forehead… what you draw is up to you! The person being drawn on won’t notice until they look in a mirror—that suspense and excitement is part of the fun!

An apology for an unreasonable demand

When you’ve done something wrong, you have to apologize honestly, right? But apologizing actually takes courage, doesn’t it? So why not incorporate that kind of apology into a penalty game? Take a scandal you didn’t even commit as the prompt, come up with a solid reason, and hold a mock press conference.

You also have to make it funny, so it’s actually pretty difficult.

butt letters

butt letters

It’s a simple task of writing letters with your butt, but it’s incredibly embarrassing.

The movement ends up looking so comical that you just want to run away.

It’s bad enough just imagining everyone’s eyes fixed on your butt, and on top of that, you have to write letters with it! The movements change depending on whether it’s hiragana, katakana, or kanji, so try giving prompts in various versions!

abs

abs

Abs are essential for building a strong body.

It’s fine to set them as a goal for your own health, but doing them as a punishment game is really tough and painful! The proper way to do sit-ups is to place your hands behind your head, but even just crossing your arms and lifting your upper body is pretty intense.

Tailor the difficulty to the person and let them gradually suffer their way to the brink of ab-muscle collapse as their punishment! That said, for people who train their abs regularly, it might actually be a welcome penalty.
