[For Elementary School Students] Collection of Science-Related Games and Quizzes
Science is a subject where students research familiar living things and learn how things work and the laws of physics through observation and experiments.
Because they can create phenomena that seem almost magical—like using a magnifying glass to set paper on fire—many children probably enjoy it.
Now, to get them even more engaged than before, let’s turn studying into a kind of play!
In this article, we’ve put together a collection of science-related games and quizzes.
Have fun and get everyone excited!

Ocean Creatures Trivia Quiz

Let’s deepen our understanding of sea creatures like the ones you see at aquariums through a quiz.
Many of them have unique appearances, and it’s fascinating that there are solid reasons behind the way they look.
If you focus on where in the ocean they live and what they eat, you’ll likely arrive at the right answers.
You may also gain a sense of the ocean’s vastness and depth—something you can’t fully grasp just by looking at exhibits at eye level in an aquarium.
Lab Equipment Quiz

In science experiments, we use a variety of laboratory instruments, don’t we? This is a quiz where you try to guess the names of those instruments based on how they look.
Remembering the experiments you’ve done before and when you used certain tools might also serve as hints.
Some items have unique shapes, so let’s pay close attention to the reasons behind those shapes as well.
Another interesting thing about lab equipment is that, in some cases, the way an item is used or the situation in which it’s used becomes its name exactly as is.
Shooting gallery with air (air-powered shooting)

This is a game where you shoot balls using the pressure generated by pushing out air, and try to pierce targets.
The mechanism is simple: plug one end of a tube and push a rod from the other end.
I recommend a pattern where players choose from differently shaped devices.
Pay attention to what kind of force is produced when air is compressed and how the momentum changes depending on how you push.
It could also be interesting to mix in designs where air leaks and momentum doesn’t build, or ones that require so much pushing force that they can’t be moved—making the competition effectively begin with the choice of device.
Vegetable or Fruit Quiz

This is a quiz where familiar foods are shown by appearance and name, and you decide whether each is a vegetable or a fruit.
The key twist is that some items we enjoy as fruits are, in terms of classification, actually vegetables.
Knowing there are trick questions makes you question whether something is truly a fruit, which raises the difficulty.
Let’s also deepen our understanding of how vegetables and fruits are classified and what kind of background each food has.
Plastic Bottle Rocket Distance Contest

Let’s compete to see whose plastic bottle rocket can fly the farthest by pumping air into a plastic bottle and releasing it so it shoots out with force.
You can make the mechanism that traps air in the bottle by combining a faucet nozzle with a bicycle valve; once you attach this part to the plastic bottle, it’s ready to go.
The way it flies will vary depending on how much air you put in and how securely the parts are attached, so think of your own ways to increase the flight distance.
It’s also a good idea to attach the parts to the bottle so they catch the wind.
Plant Quiz

This is a quiz where the visible area of a photo is gradually expanded, and participants try to guess the flower’s name from its appearance.
To answer correctly based on appearance alone, they need to have the look and the name linked in their mind, so if they can’t tell just by looking, let’s add hints such as the season or distinctive features.
Including fun facts will also help deepen understanding of flowers.
It’s also a good idea to emphasize the aspect of familiar plants and include questions about plants other than the flowers people usually see in daily life.
Insect Name Quiz

From the familiar creatures we see in daily life to rare species that live only in limited regions of the world, there are all kinds of insects, aren’t there? This is a quiz where you guess the names of insects—of which there are said to be over one million species worldwide.
While the classic approach is to identify them by their appearance, using tidbits like the seasons when they’re most active or their habitats as hints can deepen your understanding of each insect.
Rather than simply guessing the correct answer, it’s also recommended to look into closely related species as part of the process.
