I’m Hiyoko-sensei, a former nursery school teacher from Hyogo Prefecture. Ever since I was five, my dream was to become a childcare worker, and before I knew it, 20 years had passed since I achieved that dream. After working for five years at an after-school childcare club and three years at a nursery school, I began working as a freelance writer. I’m a mother of two children. Inspired by playing the flute in the school wind ensemble in elementary school, I joined a jazz club at university. I’ve also incorporated ukulele and piano performance into childcare. Playing, laughing, feeling sad, feeling frustrated—through all kinds of experiences, I want children to grow.

When spring comes, flowers bloom and living creatures become more active.

[Cotton Swab Stamps] Rapeseed Blossoms

How about enjoying a cute rapeseed flower craft using a cotton swab stamp? First, use colored construction paper to prepare the flower parts in a pale yellow and the stem and leaves in green.

Glue these pieces down to create the base.

Next, bundle five cotton swabs together and secure them with a rubber band to make a simple stamp.

Dip the tips in yellow paint first, then lightly dab them onto the flower parts you made from the colored paper.

The impression of five small blossoms grouped together gives it that perfect rapeseed-flower look.

It’s also nice that the finished piece is compact—just the size of a child’s palm.
