[For Women in Their 30s] Aim for a High Score at Karaoke!
Have you ever wanted to aim for a high score at karaoke but weren’t sure which songs to choose? If the vocal range is too wide or the rhythm is complex, your score might not go up as much as you’d like.
In fact, just picking songs with more falls (slide-down notes) or a stable melody line can make it much easier to score well.
This time, I’ll introduce tracks that are easy to sing and work well with scoring systems.
I’m from the same generation too, so I’ve picked especially popular songs! Find a track that suits your voice and enjoy your next karaoke session even more!

distress (at sea/in the mountains); being lost; stranded; a disaster situationToukyou Jihen

Tokyo Jihen is known for jazzy, stylish songs today, but I don’t think that’s the impression women in their 30s had when they listened to Tokyo Jihen in their teens.
This track, “Sounan,” is crafted as a somewhat jazzy, defeatist rock song characteristic of their early period.
For women in their 30s, this is likely the kind of melody that comes to mind when they think of Tokyo Jihen.
While the song uses many semitone movements, its vocal range is narrow, and the vocal lines descend more than they ascend, making it easy to sing for any voice part.
It’s the perfect choice if you want to aim for a high score at karaoke.
LOVE 2000hitomi

Hitomi’s song “LOVE 2000,” with its energetic melody, became a nationwide hit.
Many women in their 30s may have admired her at the time for her cool, no-nonsense persona and powerful, rock-influenced musical style.
While the melody of this track stands out for its strength, it surprisingly has a narrow vocal range, centered in the mid to upper-mid range.
There isn’t much pitch variation, and the tempo is mid-range, making it perfect for aiming for a high score.
Consider adding it to your repertoire.
DOLLSCANDAL

SCANDAL is a girls’ rock band that gained immense popularity in the late 2000s.
Even now, as a representative girls’ rock band, they continue to churn out hit numbers from time to time.
Among their songs, “DOLL” is likely a deeply nostalgic track for women in their 30s.
This piece covers a relatively narrow vocal range of mid1 G# to hi D, and its vocal lines have gentle rises and falls, making it exceptionally easy to sing.
youKōda Kumi

For women in their late 30s, Ayumi Hamasaki is the quintessential diva, but for those in their early 30s, many would likely name Kumi Koda.
Speaking of Kumi Koda, her charm lies in her low register that makes rich use of overtones, and “you” is a song that fully leverages that low range.
The vocal range is mid1E to hiB, which is low and suited to male vocalists; however, since the overall range isn’t particularly wide, there’s no issue with raising the key to adjust.
As for the falsetto in the chorus, even a light mixed voice is sufficient to produce it.
All in all, it’s a relatively easy song to sing, so give it a try on karaoke scoring.
AitaiKato Miria

Miliyah Kato’s “Aitai” is a very heartrending song, and her voice matches it perfectly.
If you’re aiming for a high score with this track, try to sing each note carefully so the melody doesn’t rush.
Since it’s a relaxed song and you should have plenty of chances to breathe, take a solid breath and focus on the pitch bar for each phrase.
Also, if you lean too much into Miliyah Kato’s distinctive vocal styling, your rhythm might slip, so I think it’s best to sing it straightforwardly at first.
Papillon ~papillon~Shimatani Hitomi

Hitomi Shimatani is a female singer who had a major breakthrough in the early 2000s.
She’s an impressive artist whose alluring looks contrast with her catchy vocals, and she has several hit songs to her name.
Among her works, one of the most stylish tracks is Papillon 〜papillon〜.
Although it leans toward an R&B flavor, the vocal line is surprisingly gentle and the range isn’t particularly wide.
Since the high-note phrases don’t cram in too many words or transition into long sustained notes, it’s a song that makes it relatively easy to aim for a very high score.

366 daysHY

A signature ballad by HY, released in 2008 and widely known as the theme song for the film “Red Thread.” “366 Days” has been covered by many artists and is especially popular.
It’s basically composed in a lower range; if you resonate in your mouth and sing with a deep tone, you can achieve a powerful voice like Izumi Nakasone’s.
The key is switching to falsetto in the pre-chorus—if you don’t nail that, it feels hard to flow smoothly into the chorus.
Aim gently and accurately for the pitch bar there.
The chorus builds up a lot, so singing with an explosive burst of emotion should also help enhance your expressiveness!
