TAKUMI / ArtisanMatsutani Taku

TAKUMI/Shokunin, composed by Taku Matsutani, is known as an insert song from the TV program ‘Before After: The Home Makeover.’ Many people have surely felt moved the moment this piece began to play as the newly transformed home appeared on screen.
The original version is an ensemble for piano and strings, but performing it as a piano solo brings out its simple, delicate melody even more.
It’s best to keep in mind to play with a warm tone even in the climactic sections.
The theme from “Dramatic Before After,” ‘Inscrutable Battle’ (Two Pianos & Band)Matsutani Taku

Known as the theme song of “Before After,” this piece features a stunning arrangement for two pianos and band.
Its powerful rhythm and tension-filled melodic lines perfectly capture the show’s atmosphere.
Though instrumental, the track combines exhilaration and urgency in a way that grips viewers and won’t let go.
Included on the 2001 album “EPOCH 1 / PLATFORM,” the song matches the program’s image flawlessly and has left a deep impression on many.
It’s highly recommended not only for pianists but also for anyone who wants to experience dramatic change and emotion through music.
TARKUS for pianoEmerson Lake&Palmer
An epic suite often hailed as a pinnacle of progressive rock has been arranged for piano.
Spanning about 20 minutes and divided into seven sections, it portrays the birth, battles, defeat, and rebirth of the fictional mechanical lifeform “Tarkus.” It’s characterized by fierce organ riffs, rhythms rich in irregular meters, and philosophical lyrics.
The piece explores deep themes such as war, blind obedience to authority, and the rise and fall of civilizations, and has continued to captivate music fans since its 1971 release.
It’s a recommended piece for those who want to perform technically demanding works beyond the classical repertoire, and for anyone who enjoys grand storytelling and advanced performance techniques.
Is there still anything that love can do?RADWIMPS

RADWIMPS’s “Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?” is a ballad with a beautifully resonant piano sound.
It was created as an insert song for director Makoto Shinkai’s film Weathering With You and is included on the soundtrack.
Yojiro Noda, the band’s vocalist, is known for often performing while playing the piano.
In the music video for “Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?”, there are scenes at the beginning and the end where he performs solo at the piano.
It’s a song that sounds beautiful even if you keep it simple and just play the chords without adding extra flourishes, so definitely give singing and playing it a try!
12 Etudes, Op. 25 No. 6Furederikku Shopan

Frédéric Chopin, the great composer who left behind numerous beautiful melodies.
I believe many people in Japan also love Chopin’s works.
Although Chopin is strongly associated with an emphasis on artistry, he in fact produced pieces of formidable difficulty that can be seen as a challenge to pianists.
Among them, one of the most famous is Étude Op.
25, No.
6.
This piece focuses on trills and chromatic passages in right-hand double thirds.
Of course, its artistry is also exceptional, so be sure to pay attention to that as well.
Revolutionary ÉtudeFurederikku Shopan

When it comes to Chopin, many people probably picture works of high artistry rather than ones focused on sheer virtuosity.
Of course, all of his pieces are outstanding in their artistic quality, but among them are works that place a stronger emphasis on technique.
One piece I especially recommend is the Revolutionary Etude.
It masterfully combines overwhelming virtuosity with artistic depth, and finger agility is particularly important.
Because the piece demands intense keystrokes from the very beginning, a certain level of stamina is also required.
Be sure to check it out.
AquaSakamoto Ryuichi

He is a Japanese-born musician active on the global stage.
This piece was composed with his daughter in mind, and knowing that, you can feel a certain warmth in each element of its beautifully gentle, unhurried melody.
Personally, I find the distinctive pauses within the piece to be very comforting.
