A classic rock ’n’ roll band: Yokohama Ginbae.

I think many of their fans back then admired their performances so much that they cosplayed to look like them.

Their unity and sense of togetherness made them a truly remarkable band.

This one will put you in such a bubbly mood you’ll want to skip along.

The bouncy, intricate rhythms pair perfectly with the catchy pop melody! It’s extra fun on sunny days, and on rainy ones it’ll fill you with excitement—just that kind of track.

At the end, there’s a punchline-like melodic twist that feels like a short movie.

Be sure to listen all the way through.

TsuwanoMizumori Kaori

Tsuwano, a town in Shimane Prefecture known as a quintessential “Little Kyoto.” Its compact yet elegant streetscape is a defining feature, drawing many tourists every year.

This piece is set in Tsuwano and is characterized by a warm melody that matches the town’s atmosphere.

Although there are many sections that alternate slightly between falsetto and chest voice and may seem challenging, the song mainly sits in the mid-high to high range, so the overall range isn’t very wide.

The kobushi (ornamental vocal turn) difficulty is also low, so as long as you adjust the key to suit your voice, it’s a song that anyone can sing.

Even though the moon is beautifulMizuno Atsu

A song whose poignant melody and profound lyrics resonate deeply.

Released by Atsu Mizuno in December 2023, it’s a track provided to Colon, an active member of Sutopuri, presented here in its Kafu version.

The lyrics delicately portray the feelings of a protagonist burdened by self-denial and loneliness, leaving a strong impression.

The simple, piano-centered arrangement enhances that worldbuilding.

Recommended for times when you want to gaze up at the night sky and face your own feelings.

Perfect for those seeking gentle music that stays close to the heart.

Moon BoatIkeda Satoshi

When it comes to moon-themed songs by singer-songwriter Satoshi Ikeda—known for the hit debut single “Monochrome Venus”—it has to be “Tsuki no Fune” (Moon Boat).

Released in 1988 as his fifth single, it was used in a commercial for Sanki Co., Ltd.’s “Boutique JOY.” It’s a melancholic, heartrending ballad that evokes the image of the moon reflected on the water’s surface, and it’s a classic that has been covered by artists like Noriyuki Makihara and CHEMISTRY.

Highlights from Ikeda’s 30th-anniversary concert are available on his official YouTube channel, so be sure to check them out!

Sansagari is a type of shamisen tuning that is said to be used for the darkest musical moods among the three main tuning methods.

It is believed that the Tsugaru Bakata Sansagari, which was passed down in the Tsugaru region, was shortened and came to be called Tsugaru Sansagari.

Around the end of the Edo period, shamisen tuned in the Sansagari style began to accompany bakata-bushi—songs sung by horse drivers—in the taverns of Oiwake-juku.

lucksaruganseki

Here is the second single, “Tsuki,” released by the comedy duo Saruganseki after returning from their hitchhiking trip across the Eurasian continent, riding the momentum of their hit “Shiroi Kumo no Yō ni.” Lyrics were entrusted to Ryozai Takai, with Akimoto focusing solely on production.

And incredibly, the composer is Takamiy—Takamizawa of THE ALFEE—what a star-studded lineup! The refreshing lyrics are outstanding, seemingly praising Saruganseki’s perseverance: “Life isn’t all good times, but if you live earnestly, luck will naturally come your way.” It’s a song that makes you want to listen while picturing the Ariyoshi of years past.
