The Pines of RomeOttorino Respighi

Composed in 1924, this piece is known as part of the “Roman Trilogy” alongside Fountains of Rome and Roman Festivals.
The original is an orchestral work, but it is also very popular in wind band settings, with numerous arrangements.
It is also known for the use of a banda—brass players performing offstage or from the balcony—and is characterized by a high level of difficulty.
TruthT-SQUARE

Classical pieces are great, but pop songs arranged for wind band also enjoy lasting popularity.
T-SQUARE’s “Truth” became famous as the F1 theme song and has become one of the popular pieces in wind bands as well.
It’s often performed on pops stages at concerts, with many authentic drum phrases, and it really shines on stage, doesn’t it?
Under the banner of the double-headed eagleJosef Franz Wagner

This piece, one of the classic marches, is also extremely popular! It’s a staple as an entrance song for sports days, so I’m sure you’ve heard it before.
While it has the lively feel characteristic of a march, it also carries a very elegant and refined atmosphere.
A major feature of this piece is that there are sections where the tuba plays the melody.
For tuba players, who don’t often get to play the melody, this is a fun piece to perform.
Although it’s a march, it’s definitely recommended for concert performances as well!
sea sprayKamioka Yoichi

Shioen, the 1993 wind band contest set piece, is distinguished by its opening trumpet solo melody that feels like the theme music of a TV drama or film.
Although the title includes “March,” the overall character leans more toward pop than a traditional march.
Among the four set pieces of 1993, it’s relatively demanding—especially the brass parts such as trumpet, which are technically challenging and require substantial practice.
Its striking melodies and rhythms make it a standout not only in competitions but also in concerts.
Blue and SummerMrs. GREEN APPLE

When it comes to songs that are perfect for a concert band performance, Mrs.
GREEN APPLE’s “Ao to Natsu” is an absolute must.
Its fresh, vibrant melody evokes snapshots of youth.
The vivid, summer-infused sound is sure to energize listeners and fill them with hope.
It would also leave a positive impression as a school festival piece or a song to cheer on sports teams.

FateOfisharu Higedan Dism

Official HIGE DANDism’s “Shukumei,” released in 2019, served as the theme song for “Netto Koshien,” energizing the 101st National High School Baseball Championship.
A total of 87 students from across the country participated in the recording as members of the wind ensemble and choir.
It’s an exceptionally cool track, featuring a pop, beautiful melody and a powerful brass section sound!
typewriterLeroy Anderson

This is another piece brimming with Leroy Anderson’s sense of fun.
It brilliantly weaves the sounds of an old typewriter—its typing and return—into the music.
It’s also a piece where the percussion takes center stage, and it’s really entertaining to listen to.
